2001 kia rio

It starts and runs a very few minutes and dies. When you turn it off it will run for another minute and die again. This process repeats as many times as you want to turn it off and restart it.

It can be a fuel problem or a distribution problem.

Check spark plugs, if one of them is burnt or much dirtier then the others, then the car is misfiring on one or more cylinders, replace the spark plugs, if this does not help check distributor and electronic distribution.
Check air filter, and eventually replace it if it is dirty, check that air intake is not obstructed.
Regarding fuel problems, check and eventually replace fuel filter. Check if fuel pump is running, check if it is not noisy and if there is fuel pressure.
If the above did not help you in solving the problem, then the car computer must be connected to a code reader. the computer returns error code that allow to fix problems on electronic distribution and electronic injection. In this case I suggest going to a mechanic and having car computer units scanned, the scan on its own it is not an expensive work, then you can decide if to proceed in fixing the car.

Runs 1 hour dies let few minutes will restart then repeats same.

Sounds like your ignition coil is going bad.  I believe you can have those checked for free at your local auto parts store.  When they start to go bad they will fail on you when they get hot but once they cool down they are good to go again.  Let me know if you have any other questions.  Thank for rating my response and for using FixYa!

Car starts then dies

Your antitheft system is shutting it down. You need to reprogram it. First hook up a battery charger. Then turn the key on. The security light should blink on and off. Leave the key on for 10 minutes. At the end of ten minutes, the security light will stop blinking. When it does turn the key off for five seconds. Then turn the key on. Repeat the 10minutes. Turn the key off then on. Repeat the 10 minutes a third time. At the end of the 3rd ten minute period , start the truck. It should be reprogrammed and continue to run.
