We understand that your problem is: We have a 1997 GMC Safari 4.3 Litre 2 wheel drive. Stalls when idleing. Sputters when accelerating at speeds around 70-90 kms. Gas consumption has risen dramatically. Engine light on tester told me to change PO137 bank 1 sensor 2 "oxygen sensors". Read out told me 02 circuit low voltage. Have changed both sensors, still have problem. Please help us. Thank you.

Have they given you the code for the service light?

Idle air control motor. Clean it or replace it.

Sounds like 2nd gear in the transmission is slipping. Cars usually shift at 15-20 mph from first to 2nd. First check the trans fluid.

It can be low fuel pressure issue or clogged fuel pump. Or its engine related issues,---------------

hi from the symptoms you calearly describe may i suggest that b4 you drive vehicle any further you must 1st raise and support the wheel you mention that gets hot ? make sure you chock front wheels then release park brake now check suspect wheel by rotating it to see/feel/hear ? any undue noise or stiffness most of all try rocking wheeltop to bottom i am suggesting you problem may well be the wheel bearing is shot and the heat is due to eithe the bearing run dry thus allowing the brake drum to tilt and resulting in brakeshoes to contact and cause friction /overheating of drum and transferring to actual wheel rim hope you understand above ?

It sounds like you need a tune up. I would first check the coil wire and cap and rotor then the plugs and wires. It is also possible you need a fuel filter air filter and PCV valve.

if its the 2wheel drive version, the factory says it can pull 5,500 lb. if its the all wheel drive version, the factory says 5,000lb

Here are the most common causes of surges, stalls at stops, low erratic idle speed, rough idle and engine hesitation, it is in most cases the idle speed control air-bypass valve and or throttle valve and upper intake, these area's get full of gunk and combustion residue over the miles and cause idle issues (stalls, low idle) like yours, Get a can of intake cleaner from any local parts store, not carb spray, intake cleaner, it is made by a company called CRC, remove the air intake hose to the engine, hold the idle high so the engine won't stall, then spray the can of cleaner into the intake while keeping the engine running, use at least 1/2 the can, shut down the engine and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then restart and complete a number of mixed driving cycles, town, freeway, stop and go etc., after a few days the problem will go away as the system will relearn to the clean intake.

if the wheel cylinder blows out you will lose your brakes. I would say that is dangerous.
