Motor vibration Hello, I bought my Maxima SE 2 weeks ago, the light of "service engine soon" turns on and some times the TCS and SLIP lights are turning on and off and whenever these lights come and go, the motor is vibrating very bad; I was wondering what may make this problem; it has 170,000 Km on it. If is is only smoking when you first start it up. Most likely the valve guide seals, oil is leaking into the cylinders and smoking when you start it up.

Check for any loose wire harness connection or bad contacts.

You need to have a fault scan done. Any good shop or parts store can do it for FREE for you. Autozone, Advance auto parts both do it free.

The oil change wouldn't cause this problem. Just in-case, check the engine oil level.

There are many emission sensors in the car that will make the engine light come ON. Best way to find out what's going on is to have an auto-parts store hook up a engine code reader and tell you what the code means. Most auto-part store will do this for free.

The P1320 code is essentially a coil primary voltage problem. This is traceable using a labscope or accurate DVOM and perhaps you can isolate one or two coils that still work but are close to failure...but there is a nissan service message recommending replacement of ALL coils with updated/improved models to prevent this type of failure. TCS/SLIP is traction control. Most likely you have a speed sensor issue. Be aware, some vehicles can falsely illuminate TCS because of low tire pressure in a single wheel.

identify thru computer which cylinder is the culprete then check for injector winding problems, bad grounds , have your local tech check for t.s.b. on this problem? also have you replaced the plugs?

As for trouble codes, and the dealers recommendation. They are true and accurate, although I would get a second opinion from another auto shop other than the dealer. Do not disclose what you already know other than the problems you are expriencing.

TCS and SLIP are part of the ABS system. Check the fluid level in master cylinder first. If that's OK, than you probably have a intermitent problem with one of the ABS sensors.You will need a scanner to find out which sensor in mulfunctioning, or wht the problem is. As far as the shaking condition goes, sounds like the car is misfiring. What is the code number that you are coming up with for the check engine light?? Have the spark plugs been replaced?? Replacement intarval on a 2002 Max is 105000 miles. These car seem to have a problem with the rocker cover gaskets, where iol leaks into the spark plug hole and fill the hole up, so you may need that cover, when you are replacing the plugs, but you will not know that, until you actually get inside of it.
