The number plate light runs off the back lights so their is no seperate fuse ,check teh wires that run into the boot lid as iam sure the fault is here

I have the same problem on my 2001 Jaguar S-Type 4.0L. I'm getting voltage from the boot/trunk light (11.41 VDC), but not from the two license plate sockets. I uncliped and removed to bulb holders to access direct voltage checks to the harness. No voltage. The fuse is good (#2 in boot fuse box), and all rear lights operate like they should. Is it possible that there are inline diodes for each bulb, or am I approaching this problem in the wrong manner?

i think so you are over complicating the issue here ,most likely cause is where the wires go from the body of the car to the boot lid as the lights are in the boot lid where the number plate is.check for damaged wires in and around where the wires bo into the boot lid ,simple

SOURCE: burned out license plate bulb

open trunk,

remove felt liner from rear of trunk, (liner directly behind rear lights in side trunk) should be 4 plastic Phillips head screws. Loosing screws, then slowly peel liner away. You will see 3 nuts on each side, removing these nuts will loosing the rear light lenses, so you can pull the lense away from the body from the out side to gain access to the license plate bulbs. Re-install in reverse order. While in there I would recommend replacing your brake light and reverse light bulb. Hey your already in there might as well do a little preventive maintance.

SOURCE: license's plate light stopped working even with new bulb.

It wouldn't be a fuse if that's the only light that's not working, I believe all of the parking lights are on the same fuse. It's most likely a bad ground or corrosion inside the socket where the bulb makes the electrical connection. So check the socket to make sure it has no corrosion, if it does, clean it up and apply some dielectric grease (available at any parts store) to prevent future corrosion, and check for a loose or broken ground wire.

What fuse is for the license plate

Hello April Smith,

I don't think there is a separate fuse for your license plate...

If your car is a USA market vehicle...
Go to the BBB Industries site (registration required)...

You will find FREE drawing and technical service bulletins.

I it is ONLY the license plate light that is out...
You will need to first try a newer (known working) bulb...
Then trace your power back to it's source.

Most likely a single light failure... after trying the NEW BULB ROUTINE... is a SOCKET or GROUND issue.

Tail lights work but why don't license plate lights?

The license plate lights have their own separate bulbs. If you are able to replace the bulbs, that may solve your problem. If not, you may have a loose or rusted connection to the plate bulbs only. If you are able to gain access, you may want to check the condition of the harness that supplies the power to the license plate portion. Good luck and have a great day.

License plate lights arent working

You didn't forget to pull the headlight switch to check them? That's odd, usually license plate lights are spliced in from the tail light circuit.
There may be a separate ground for the license lights-if so, should be right nearby the bulbs. Use a test light or voltmeter and make sure fuse 22 has power. You could also check the sockets for power. If you have power to the socket and new bulbs don't work, it would be a grounding problem.

License plate light out of order

Get your hands on a manual......(OEM or Hanes, etc) either online or from someone who owns the same car. It's the only way to find the correct fuse to see if that's the problem. You could start by checking the color code of the wires to the light........then look for the same color back at the panel.....but that's a pain.Good luck, buddy!

Bulb on license plate is out and cruise control. 2004 cavalier

The two problems should not be related to one another. The the fuses for the park lights and the cruise control. The license plate bulb is wired along with the rest of your park lights. If the rest of the park lights are working then check for power and ground at the bulb holder. If you have both there, check the bulb and the fit again. If no power or ground is there you will have to trace the wires. If the fuse is not blown to the cruise control, more information is required to trouble shoot any further.

License plate light not work

Change the bulb.
Or, the wire could be damaged and shorted out if the new bulb replacement won't solve this issue.
