Question about 2001 Lexus LX 470

I need new shocks on my 2001 LX470. The Toyata Dealership in Longview, TX has quoted me $1618 to replace the shocks. No one else will do it because the shocks have hydraulic fluid running through them. This is, I am told, because of the ability to move the car up and down. Is there any way I can switch to conventional shocks or cut my costs because the hydraulic fluid is leaking out of the shocks right now slowly.

Take a look at www.strutmasters.com for replacement suspension kits for that vehicle. it is going to be expensive to swap it in, but once you have that stuff taken out you won't have to fix it again and again and again.

Go to the dealership(only) for a replacement FOB. You must go with your title. The car must be present at the dealership for them to release the key to you when ready (usually comes from Dallas,TX)

Many times, lights will not turn off until a dealership turns them off. There may not a problem with the suspension anymore, but the light will stay on until the light turns off.

My rt front shock is leaking. Can I get shocks from any parts place for a 2004 Avalanche or do I need to go to a GM dealership ? Do I need to replace both front shocks or just the one?
gm dealership will be expensive, go to a parts store, to get a good consistent ride you should replace both

I got locked INSIDE my 2001 Lexus LX470 today. I
This is the anti theft function working as it should. Your husband needed to override it with the key. The command told the car to lock down. Because the key was not in the car the anti theft set off the alarm and locked down the engine as well.
This is exactly what you would want the car to do if you left it locked on the street with your windows down while shopping. Otherwise someone could reach in the window, unlock the door, slide in and start hot wiring the car.
These lock functions are programmable and can be changed at the dealership.

you obviously have no idea of the procedure so it will be cheaper and safer in the long run to take the parts along to a professional brake shop and have them fitted expertly
yes-- you want to save money but at what expense and this forum is full of people who have tried cheap DIY only to find the the end cost is more than the quote in the first place
Brakes and untrained people are an unsafe combination

They are gas charged shocks, so if they aren't holding, they won't hold in the future. You will either have to "rig" it, or buy new/used units and replace them. It could be just one that is bad (and it is usually really random when they go out), but they only make them just strong enough to hold as a pair.

Shocks or struts?
I have 161,000 on my 00 Runner. Have had the shocks/struts changed TWICE.... (thats cause I have FUN with mine over the years) Personally, I would go with what the dealership says, then just replicate that at a good shop for cheaper price.
