    Im sorry i meant the alternator is not charging and this is my second one i have put on.

The distributer does not charge anything. If you are saying that it is not firing the spark plugs this will clafify the issue. Check the coil, for this is where the distributer gets its fire.

    OK. Check the voltage regulator, either inside or outside the alternator, check your ignition relay. Go to your public library, as good libraries often carry a variety and often appropriate supply of Chilton and Haynes auto repair manuals, each of which have a troubleshoot section to help.

When you take the line off of the vacum advance can you feel air comeing though it if you put your thumb over the end of the hose,? If not the line could be plug or a leak in it, some where. If that is not the problem ,Replace the distributer,

Oil pump shaft come out of oil pump


it just sets in there once the distribitor is in place it cant move

I recommend you gert an auto maintence /repair manual from your local auto parts store for 20.00 or so for yor truck.

Car won't start


3 items: main relay, ICM & ignition coil. Find out which one hasn't been replaced, replace them. I have a 1992 - runs beautifully.

distributor bushes worn allowing the oil lubricating it to leak into the cap.dont worry if a very small amount but if excessive will need repair or replace

the power to the dist needs to be switched, so no you cant go to the starter...and yes you can plug the return

Distribitor timing


the timing was disturbed while reinstalling dist. or it is not installed in the right position normally you would make a mark that will line up when reinstalling also make sure you don't disturb the position of the place where it goes.
