I have had nothing but problems with my beetle, and this is the second time the alarm has gone off for no reason. I drove my car about 50 miles or so today, and yesterday, and when I got home, parked, and went in for supper, the alarm started going off. I unlocked the car, the alarm went off, and I relocked it. It continued for a whle before I started the car (thinking it could be the battery again) and realized the hatch light was on. It wasn't on all day. I drove it about 20 minutes or so before it did this... What the heck is wrong?

I don't have any beetle experience, but there should be a little 'button' around the door of the hatch (all car doors have this). When the door is closed (or hatch), the door pushes the button in which breaks the electric circuit and turns the light off. When the door is opened, the button pops out and the circuit is complete, which turns the light on. Look for this 'button' around the hatch area, see if it's damaged (bent over) which would keep the circuit open, and the light on. Good luck, countrycurt0

Sounds like the sensor inside the rear latch. Most vehicles don't use an actual door switch these days.

My rear hatch light indicates that the hatch is open which it is closed tight. Because of this my interior lights stay on and my remote start won't work. How can I fix this? My jeep is the 2009...

The switch on the latch is more then likely stuck. If you can see it spray it with some electrical cleaner and open and shut the hatch a few times.

Left turn signal and and rear lighting sircuit problem

hi from uk the fault you have on rear nearside/left lights is a sure sign that you have a poor earth on the left rear lamp assy also check the connection block on the bottom crossmember where the hatch closes on there are pins on the hatch that when closed they contact the block on crossmember so ensure these contacts are clean? the block on x member is removable and lifts out it has plug attached check wires for corrosion? and any sign of o/heating on plug/wires usually caused by poor contacts resulting in arcing /short circuit

I have a 97 Jeep Grande Cherokee, my rear hatch is close but I get an message telling me that rear hatch isn't close, in which it keeps my interior lights on and drains my battery

check the sensors and clean them with steel wool. the hatch may not be close to each other so check that as well you may have to loosen them up and tighten them again but try that first

Stop light out

For the brake light open the rear hatch and check beside the tail light. I believe ther is 2 phillips head screws right where the light meets the rear hatch on the body panel. remove them and gently yet firmly pull the lens assembly from the corner of the rear body panel. Squeeze the clips on the back of the socket and twist to remove the socket from the lens. Push gently on the bulb and turn carefully to remove light from the socket replace the light and reverse removal procedure to install.
