The vehicle will have to be jacked in the air safely to remove the cable from the trans. Some fluid will come out too,so have a catch basin in place. You have to climb onto the floor board, and lay on your back looking up into the underside of the dash.Locate the speedo cable and follow it up to the speedo head with your hand. When you reach the area where the cable dead ends into the speedo head, feel around for a locking clip or tab.You will either squeeze or lift the tab,and this will release the old cable from the speedo head.Pull the cable through the firewall grommet, and remove the cable.Reverse to reinstall. There may be a plastic gear on the trans end of the cable that has to be removed and reinstalled on the new cable. The gear is removed by removing the metal retainer clip shaped like a horseshoe.Good luck.

My speedometer is jumping and not steady, on a 1986 Crown Vic

Take the spedo cable loose from the transmission and pull the flex cable out. Then use some lithium grease to coat the cable and reinstall the cable.

My gas gage doesn't work. It always say empty and that orange light never turns off . How do I fix this?

Your float in the tank that reads your fuel lvl has a hole, has filled with gas, and no longer floats. Remove the tank, and install new float.

Rear and interior dashboard lights don't work 1994 Crown Vic.

Easy stuff first. Try replacing the #9 fuse on the interior fuse panel. This fuse protects the instrument panel, license, parking and tail light circuits. The panel is located under the dash to the left of the steering column. You will need to pry off the cover on the panel to access the fuses. The fuse you want is a 15 amp fuse located directly under the turn signal flasher. It should be easy to figure out which fuse it is because it will be 'blown' or open. This is easy to determine just by looking at the fuse once it's removed. And, if you aren't sure what's what, I'm sure you can find a diagram of this fuse panel somewhere on the Internets if you look around a little. I took this info out of the Owner Manual from my own '94 Vic. If this doesn't solve the problem I would suggest taking your Vic to a shop and letting them take a look at it.
