Hi - I have the same problem and I am now in the process of fixing. I found a broken ground wire on the crank shaft position sensor. This apparently will keep the car from firing. I will try this and let you know.

O.K. - I fixed the problem. It was a broken ground on the crank angle position sensor (some manuals call this the speed sensor). The original black insulation was gone and the ground wire was frayed. Replace this part and your car will fire up.

What could cause a1991 suzuki samurai to have no fire from a new coil?

no spark from coil directly?
is the cam turning, is the dizzy rotor spinning. ????

check all fuses first. Ig-coil, FI and dome.
then using diagnostic jumper wire or fuse, (as approp)
crank engine look for code 41 o 42.!!!

USA cars , answers only
our cars are all EFI that year.
no engine swaps to Suzuki G16A/B sidekick or tracker engines.!
1: engine cranks
2: no spark
3: The ECu makes spark
the CMP sensor in the DIzzy , (never fails if rotor turns, does rotor turn, if not cam belt igored and now snapped.)
the cam turns. the CMP fires. the ECU takes this CMP signal
and fires the ignitor next to coil and the coil charges, and release and BAM spark.

that is it.
the ECU will tell you when the CMP dies or the Ignitor fails
why not ask it.
1: key on
2: diagnostic jumper in place (flashes 12s for ok)
3: crank engine,for 5sec, not 1 ,not 2.
3: release key not off.
4: see code 41, or 42, BINGO !@!!!!

Your car has both a crank and cam position sensor. First start with your crankshaft position sensor. It is located by the harmonic balancer on the front of the motor.

Pu trucks 4x4 24s motor

When the sensor gets contaminated with unburnt fuel deposits-covered in soot-I suppose it could contribute to poor economy, but I doubt it is the underlying cause.
Do you have the feedback carburetor, with an ecu for air/fuel mixture control through the air/fuel mixture ratio solenoid? This solenoid would be mounted on top of the carb. It can be checked for operation with a voltmeter, look for a pulsing signal-voltage swings back and forth from about 5 to 9 volts. That is, if you can find the diagnostic check connector-on my '87 Sentra, looked all over, finally found it by the fuse panel under the dash-a 7 wire connector, and the solenoid wire to check for the pulsing is a dark green wire.

You will find that Nissan had some real crappy systems in these years (and I'm a big fan of Nissan)-the ecu has no diagnostic code capability, but does have limited diagnostic functions. Do you see the little red and green led lights on the ecu? These are for the "limited diagnostic functions". Were you to go through the diagnostic systems check, the led lights would tell you first if the oxygen sensor is sending a signal to the ecu, then after another step, will tell you if 1) all ecu controllers, connections, and relays are good to go, or2) if some part of the ecu controls on the engine has a problem-little things like the egr solenoid vacuum controller, all the little solenoids, relays, and sensors that the ecu controls-won't tell you which one, just that a problem is up with some part. So much for "limited diagnostic functions"...Then you have to check each one.

Maybe you just need a rebuild kit for the carburetor. Or if you have the dual spark plug system (2 spark plugs per cylinder) you may need to diagnose that, and see if plugs are firing at right sequence. Only reason they put 2 plugs in each cylinder, firing one after the other? Some design flaw, where one spark plug did not get a complete burn of the air-fuel mixture. Nissan's answer was to put two plugs in each cylinder...
I can tell you one thing for sure: don't expect any help from a Chilton manual. Mine was useless. What I did was go to a website called eautorepair.com. This site is run by Mitchell-long known for auto repair manuals-and is very complete and helpful. It is a subscription site, the same one used by professionals with info on all makes. As a DIY-er, you subscribe and get complete info on your specific vehicle. Rates are cheap, too. $12.99/week, $16.99/month, or $25.99/year. Has complete and printable wiring diagrams-I had a 1 month subscr., and saved a dozen pages of wiring diagrams, component locations, and other repair info and help.
You and I kind of in the same boat: had you bought an '86 pickup, you would have throttle body injection-much easier to fix and diagnose. Had I found an '88 Sentra, rather than my'87, I too would have fuel injection, and we could both trash the "feedback carburetors".

1991 Geo Tracker Won't Start - Has No Spark And No Fuel Replaced: Control Module, Coil, Igniter, Distributor, Rotor And Cap, Main And Fuel Pump Relays, Under Hood Main Fuse Box And Fuses, Fuel Filter, Is...

sounds like canada or USA car, is it?
i just restored one, know it like back of hand.
no inertial switch, of any kind, no upside down car switch. like my mazda either. and that cuts fuel not spark.'

want to trouble shoot it or guess and go broke?
no spark, clear as day, and the ECU cuts fuel with no spark.
so forget fuel. totally.
ready to fix spark?
and you said no spark but failed to say,
at the coil or all 5 places. big deal that....

the ECU will talk to you, and tell you why, 1/2 the time.
is your tachometer dead, cranking> 4x4 have tach.
and will move to 0.3K rpm that is 3/10s of below 1 mark.
the 1 means 1000, so 3ths is 300 rpm. cranking. does it?
if not the ECU will throw,,no spark codes, 2nd clue.
what to learn?
http://www.fixkick.com/IGN_timing/no-spark.html

first check for spark that the ignition coil. center tower.
how:
in 1991,in the USA the spark creation changed, radically
the ECU generates park, in this way.
CMP in dizzy makes cam signal (there is no crank trigger in 91)
the CMP makes perfect square way
the ECU sees that. and triggers the ignitor
the ignitor charges the coil, and spark happens at the coil tower.
does yours?

if the eCU sees a missing CMP signal you get code 41.
if the ecu sees missing spark read back, code 42
you must crank for 5 seconds release the key to see codes of this type.,class.
do you know how to use the diagnostic jumper paper clip yet.

ask here for interactive answer.

2ooo elantra dies and chugs at stop lights and when I turn. Mechanics can't find a problem. The check engine light comes on but doesn't stay on. Ihave had a tune up, new fuel filter, spark plugs and wires.

Whenever the 'CHECK ENGINE' (Service Engine Soon) light comes on, the ECU (Engine Control Unit) sets a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC). These codes identify the particular engine management system which caused the light to come on.
You'll need to use/find an OBDII (On-Board Diagnostic) Scanner to retrieve any code which have been stored in the ECU computer. Afterward, we might be able to help you DIAGNOSE the problem and perhaps eventually fix the problem.

How do i solve the engine diagnostic code # 7

First check for power and grounds at the sensor. Check for voltage at the signal wire, and continuity on the signal wire bt the sensor and the ecu. if all your circuits are OK then replace the sensor.
