I have a 1995 Geo Metro. Im not sure if i need to replace the clutch or does it have something to do with the transmission. The cluch is very hard to get in gear. When I push in the clutch (started or not) it is very hard to shift into any gear. Could someone please give me some insite on what it maybe.

Check to see that you have clutch fluid filled up, usually a separate cylinder on firewall near brake cylinder reservoir, and I believe uses a brake fluid for the the clutch cylinder, once refilled if low, shifting should be o.k. hopefully

HI,
I finally figured out my problem after buying a Geo shop manual off ebay. The automatic transmission control unit under the dash had gone bad. $65.00 at the junk yard and two bolts later and it runs just fine.

SOURCE: 2000 Chevy Metro New Clutch and now can't shift into 1st Gear

With ALL due respect, I speak from a 30 year Career of AUTO & Heavy Truck Experence of Fleet Management and Personal Customer Auto Care, and by NO means do I mean any Disrespect to you here.
As Long as is Does Not grind while UP SHIFTING you R fine , DOWNSHIFTING into 1st Gear BEFORE 20 mph is a Disaster Waiting to Happen EXAMPLE> Just BECAUSE a car CAN run at 120mph does not Mean One SHOULD do it. If it downshifted to 1st gear before 20 mph with OTHER Clutch that was due to WEAR, there MAY be a bit of AIR in the Release bearing or Slave cylinder, That needs to be BLED OUT, DOWNSHIFTING IS NOT A recommended Practice Unless its an EMERGENCY STOP condition, as It Causes Premature Wear on Clutch Disc. I Know this MAY seem UNTRUE as you may have done it for years But IN FACT A Clutch is MADE to Simply Get From LOWER GEAR TO HIGHER GEAR, but if you Downshift ALL of the time you WILL Subject the Clutch to TWICE the WEAR you Should THUS WEARING it OUT TWICE AS FAST $ thats $$$$. A good number of shops wont Advise you this Far as it Would REDUCE THERE Profit. I Hope I Have shed some Light on this delima, And Think of the MONEY you Can SAVE on TWICE the Longevity with 1 Clutch Job. Again I hope this Helps you, And If you FEEL that I Deserve A GOOD RATING Please do so ,as Most folks get there Answers and GO without Rating US LoL Thank You !

SOURCE: When i start my 1997 Geo Metro, it often sputters

Try this
Here are the most common causes of surges, stalls at stops, low erratic idle speed, rough idle and engine hesitation, it is in most cases the idle speed control air-bypass valve and or throttle valve and upper intake, these area's get full of gunk and combustion residue over the miles and cause idle issues (stalls, low idle) like yours, Get a can of intake cleaner from any local parts store, not carb spray, intake cleaner, it is made by a company called CRC, remove the air intake hose to the engine, hold the idle high so the engine won't stall, then spray the can of cleaner into the intake while keeping the engine running, use at least 1/2 the can, shut down the engine and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then restart and complete a number of mixed driving cycles, town, freeway, stop and go etc., after a few days the problem will go away as the system will relearn to the clean intake.

98 Geo metrohard to shift into any gear

I assume it is a standard shift transmission? I would see if there is any adjustment on the clutch cable. If the cable is already as tight as it can be adjusted, it's probably time for a new clutch.

I just had a clutch replaced in a 1993 Geo Metro, but I can't get it to start. The battery has been charged and the clutch switch has been checked. Could there be something not plugged in that needs to be,...

Theres a very strong possibility that something wasn't replugged back in, first thing i would check being the clutch was replaced is the starter make sure all related wiring going to the starter has been reconnected and clean, a wire left disconnected from your starter will most likely be the problem your currently experiencing....

Hard time with transaxle to fix clutch

ok this is fun

you need to remove the strut lower ball joint and the trans mount then remove the motor mount from front of opisite side frame rail to allow motor to rotate
then trans will drop about 4-6 inches undo the bolts slowely arround the bell housing when all bolts out shake the bastard it will slowely slip off
remember to jack the car up high i usualy go 2 feet off the ground with swifts and geo remove the cluch cable and i believe the starter stays in place just need to undo the bolts \
this job takes about 3 hours start to finish trans drops out the botom and goes in the same way use a small jack to suport the trans untill all bolts out and dont forget to use your ball joint fork to pop the drive shafts out of the trans and btw use new fluid to replace3 your losses on the ground c
and if all else fails buy a chilton book they are a god send

Geo sick..lol have to push cluch to floor few times to get it to start..lost 1st an 4th gear they pop out and is slow to nothing taking off in 2nd..push gass but get rev no go..lol some one said the boot...

3 cylinder Metros use a mechanical cable not disengage the clutch, not a hydraulics so there is no 'boot' that could be bad (a "boot" is a common name for the rubber seal in a hydraulic master/slave cylinder). There is an electric safety switch under the dashboard, at the top of the clutch pedal which prevents the engine from turning over unless the clutch pedal is depressed. It is likely faulty or adjusted incorrectly.
