99 percent of the time it does mean a charging problem such as the alternator. There is a place that you can look to see is a fuse is blown that would cause this in you car. It is in the fuse panel located in the engine compartment (see picture below) and it is a 30 amp mini fuse and is located in the number 26 position in the fuse panel (see other picture for layout diagram). This is for the generator and would cause you not to charge as well as make the battery light come on. It may be the alternator but I would check this first. I hope this helps you and good luck.
