    I have the same issue.
I also notice my radio volume cutting in and out, and my headlamps dimming, and it seems related to engine RPM, therefore I am guessing that the alternator is dying.  Have you learned anything new on your problem?

Thanks to Toyota Ed and Marktimares. I actually solved the problem.

Thanks to Toyota Ed and Marktimares for your input. I solved my problem when I found the passenger heater wasn't working too. It was too easy, the fuse!

A development on my problem (battery and other lights turning on, making me think my alternator was out, and radio cutting out). My engine temp skyrocketed one day. I checked and my radiator was quite low, and now after ensuring the radiator was full and the engine running at normal temperature, all the warning lights and alternator misbehavior stopped. I'm not sure the relationship except that it worked.. so far. (filling the radiator fully, that is).

The battery light on at the dash indicates a problem internal in the alternator. Normally, when the alternator is producing sufficient voltage (14.4 VDC), the light stays off. When the alternator is NOT producing sufficient voltage, the light comes on. Check the voltage at the battery with a voltmenter with the engine running. If you have less than 12 volts, you both need an alternator.

If you have a dead battery it will act as a load and also make the voltage drop to a lower level won't it? Since it is trying to increase the differance of potential to inrease current flow therefore charging batterys? I may be wrong this is just how I understand the charging process.

Wiring harness for a 1997 toyota 4 runner

Try your local Autozone or Advance Auto Parts, it usually is sold there and it would say on the plastic or label for what year to what year is that fitment on it but to be honest there was one time that I bought one that didn't fit the car I was installing a radio hope so is not your case that its electric system has not been modified .....

Good Luck!

Where is the flasher relay located for 1998 Toyota 4- Runner

Toyota Pick-ups, Land Cruiser, and 4 Runner 1997-00

The turn signal flasher is usually located in the convenience center, under the dash, on the left side kick panel. In all cases, replacement is made by unplugging the old unit and plugging in a new one.

Hope helped with this (remember rated this help) Good luck.
