Question about 1989 Ford Ranger

1 Answer

Problems I have a 1989 Ford Ranger 2.3 and sometimes it wont start and sometimes it will. I can get it started sometime and it will shut right off, other times it will start and i will drive a little ways and it will die. i wont even be out of first gear. If i twist the key on and off a couple of times i will start. it seems like i have to prime the fuel pump and it will start. I was in a fender bender in it but i don't think i hit hard enough to knock the fuel pump off. But if the inertia switch is off the engine wont start at all will it? Can you help?

Sometimes car with start right up and other times not at all, its gets no spark when this happens or gas from the fuel injectors

There are two fuses that power the main relay, which powers the injectors and the computer.
I would check that relay first.

I have an 1989 ford ranger 4cyl 2.3L. I hit a water puddle and my truck shut off and it wont start.

sounds like water got into the starter somehow. mine did the same thing and it was because my starter was loose enough to let water in

Starting issues 94 ranger 3.0

You should've changed the coil when you replaced the starter. If you could only do one at a time, I would've gone with the coil first. There is a brass plate that gets charred with carbon build up. Your banging on the coil shakes some of it off, re-establishing a good connection. You can sometimes get away with taking it apart and cleaning all off with a mini-grinder or rotary wire brush. This will confirm it for you and buy you time until payday or your next day off.
