Hi leslieb,
First thing, we need more imfo? Does the engine make any sounds that it wasn't making before. What condition is the engine oil and when did you last change it? What engine oil are you using in you engine and what engine type is it?

I suggest you check the oil pressure sender unit switch, which you'll find in close proximity to the oil filter housing. There is a good chance that it's defective....a replacement may fix the problem....If not then you;re most probably in for an engine re-build.

Let us know how you get on?

Oil light stays on until revs reach 2,000 and then goes out but comes back on when revs drop off has new filter and oil

Never run an engine unnecessarily when the oil light is on and especially never put the engine under load - never drive the car!

Oil light switches do become faulty sometimes and it is usually just as easy and doesn't cost very much to replace the switch as to have an oil pressure test carried out.

Most likely the oil pressure is low and if it was ok before the oil change it is possible the oil pressure relief valve is stuck open.

I have a 2015 volkswagon passat. And the low oil light keeps coming on and I checked the oil yesterday and the light went off and came back on today. Would they be a bad sensor or something?

It is not a worry that the oil light comes on when hot, at idle, but it should go off as soon as revs begin to rise.

If you are driving in a very hot climate, such as in central Australia right now, you could go to one grade thicker oil, such as 20W-50 instead of 10W-40.

If you are concerned about this, have a mechanic replace the oil pressure sender with a gauge, to show pressure at various revs. It should be approx 10 psi per 1000 revs.

If well below this it shows your engine main bearings are worn, the oil pump is worn , or the oil pump overpressure relief spring is weak.

Oil light comes on Ford focus 2000 when car get hot

Not so good. Check that the oil level is OK, then get an independent gauge hooked up to measure pressure at idle and revs. If OK then the pressure sender has failed, not unkown.

If it is in fact low, you may be able to improve things by going to a heavier grade of oil like 20W-50 instead of 10W-40, but eventually the engine will need work, some or all of

- new oil pump
- new big end and conrod bearings
- new piston rings while you are at it

Ideally you should have about 10psi for each 1000rpm

Engine light comes on when engine is hot. Power is the greatly reduced. When engine is cold it drives perfectly. Toyota 7afe 1.8 litre fuel injection, modded aspirated. I've rebuild the motor due to a big...

There is a possibility that the old motor was not burning properly and you have carbon build up on the O2 sensers. A poorly functioning O2 senser will not allow the Fuel/Air mixture to work as you give it gas under load. You could have multiple O2 sensers too.

2000 dodge intrepid 3.2 l engine noise and oil light on

Hi! May I ask when was your last engine oil change? Maybe now is the time. When the oil is burnt it makes annoying noise coming from the engine plus a poor performance can be expected. I suggest that you have an oil change and please do check on the radiator fan. If the fan motor is weak it makes the engine hot and run sluggish. Please write back and tell me how it goes. Hope this helps and have a good one!

Oil warning light

Indication of wear within the engine. Most probably worn main bearings. First off, did you use the correct grade oil with the last oil change? If yes, get that engine out, have the crankshaft resized(entails grinding the journals to a slightly smaller diametre) and fit oversize crank bearings. While you're at it and the engine is out you may as well swop out the oil pump, saving you much time and money in the long run.

The oil light comes on at times and goes off as the rpms go up. What can be done about the light?

Maybe your engine is idling too slowly, If the revs are below say 700rpm the low pressure warning light could come on especially when the engine is hot.. If the idle speed is ok try a heavier grade of oil in the engine. Next try a new oil pressure sensor. It's got to be one of these things. Check the engine running temperature . An over-hot engine will cause the oil light to come on too.
