Have you tried the VCM (the computer) I have had 2 of these go bad already due to poor design. Water drips on to the unit and then corrodes after time (last one lasted only 2 1/2 years). Since this is the computer that runs the entire vehicle, you will notice many different symptoms.

hope this helps

Servise engine soon

The pesky "Service Engine Soon" light... honestly no one could tell you without actually servicing it, but it could be anything from an dirty air filter, to a bad block or piston, or anything. A licensed mechanic should be able to tell you after looking at it.

Is the service engine soon light on? I would suspect, based on your description, the TPS sensor may be open or the temperature sensor may have failed.
When you open the throttle the TPS sends the accelerator pedal information to the engine controller so the engine controller can add fuel and allow you to accelerate. If the TPS does not send the correct throttle position to the engine controller, no fuel is added and the engine stalls.
If the coolant sensor has failed, your fuel mixture will not be correct and engine can stall when accelerating.
If the service engine soon light is on, your mechanic will be able to determine which sensor has failed.
Hope this helps, good luck.

I have an 86 seville with a replacement 89 4.9 liter engine. i get "service engine soon" messages on dash & my engine occasionally stalls at idle, my mechanic has checked the computer but nothing...

on GM cars, it can be numerous issue, im surprised he not pulling any code, did you take it the dealer or one of the small garage mechanic. they are two different breed and may have the right equipment or updated computer. have you air mass/throttle sensor check common problems at idle the engine stall. you cant fix the unit, it has to be replace if it bad, check ebay for used if needing to replace the unit

I have a 2000 buick lesabre. The fix engine soon

It NEVER was the camshaft sensor! Unless, you've removed the engine lately, which I doubt.
RUN to Advance Auto Parts and buy a can of "SeaFoam" and add to your gas tank per at least 100 miles and the problem should go away...IF it doesn't you'll have to replace the O2 sensors in the exhaust system...Any good mechanic should be able to do this for much less $$ than the dealership DO NOT go to the dealer for repairs!
Good Luck

Engine stalls,

What do you mean they can't run tests, bull, there are a number of tests that can be run to determine the problem, you need to take it to a GM service center.
