If the transmission was recently repaired and the vehicle is still having trouble shifting into drive, there could be a few possible issues at play. Here are a few things that might be causing the problem:
The transmission was not properly reassembled: If the transmission was not put back together correctly, it could be causing shifting problems.
There is a problem with the transmission fluid: If the transmission fluid is low or contaminated, it can cause shifting issues.
There is a problem with the shift linkage: The shift linkage connects the shift lever to the transmission, and if it is damaged or not adjusted properly, it may be difficult to shift into gear.
There is a problem with the transmission control module: The transmission control module is a computer that controls the transmission. If it is not functioning properly, it can cause shifting problems.
did you attach the transmission converter on the transmission first or bolted the converted on the flexplate/flywheel first. If you did the latter, you probably broke the transmission pump. When you get the engine started, transmission wont work.
You may be needing transmission replacement, but don't panic , first have the transmission fluid changed with a new filter. Some- times these can get plugged up and create problems. Good Luck!
so long as the transmission is the correct size and shape it should work. Changing an automatic transmission to a manual transmission is more difficult ... but it Does work (as long as they match the car). I would not recommend trying to make the swap yourself unless you have all the tools and space you would need ... and a bunch of experience in swapping transmissions, since you will have to change a lot.
Changing from an automatic to a manual transmission will require the mechanic to install a clutch pedal in your car, which sometimes takes a lot of work. In addition to that, they will have to swap out the transmission itself (which take a lot of work, too), and they will have to swap out other parts like the computer, transmission fluid control systems, and possibly much more. If you really love your VUE it could be worth the effort ... but it will be an expensive job, and probably take a significant amount of time to complete. If your issue is the transmission that is in the car already, you might save money and time just swapping it out with another automatic transmission ... but if you have the time, the money, and the desire to give your car a manual transmission, then it is up to you. Either way, have fun!
If it is a automatic transmission check the transmission fluid level. low trans fluid will not allow it to work properly, also if it is an auto the cable and/or linkages from the shifter to the transmission could have broken or come unhooked. If it is a manual transmission the syncronizers are probably shot. the syncronizers are not a diy fix for anyone with no experience working on vehicles.
I would recommend just looking around for a new transmission because Rebuilding transmissions can be costly but you can guarantee that it will work without fail(if done correctly by the technician). The biggest drawback to a used transmission is you need to be careful when buying one because in the years that I've been working on cars I've seen customers come in with transmissions that they bought from a private party (not a store) and had the transmission installed and it did not work. There is no easy way to tell if a used transmission is bad just by looking at it but ultimately the choice is yours to make. The Cost effective way would be a used transmission from a store that has a warranty on the transmission. The safest way would be to visit either a Transmission repair shop or a certified Ford Dealership to have the transmission inspected and overhauled.
One of the solenoids in the transmission is acting up go to a transmission shop and have them code the transmission. Some repair shops can also check your transmission if they have the right Diagnostic tool.
