The thermostat works on temperature not miles.
Not sure how a thermostat relates to the SMOG test. That usually applies to fuel and exhaust emissions. An engine running too hot might shift the emissions a small amount but if they were high there must be something else causing the problem.
Get the engine up to normal working temperature. 20 to 30 minutes at a steady speed on the freeway should do this. If the thermostat is working the temperature should stay the same. The thermostat only opens to divert water through the radiator if the coolant gets too hot.
The Service Engine soon light indicates that something is likely wrong with your emissions system. It could be any number of things but it is OK to drive to a repair shop or parts shop to get the codes read. Some of these issues can cause damage if you don't get the vehicle repaired soon but you can drive it a little bit (you won't need to get it towed).
I would recommend an Autozone or Pep Boys to get the code read as it may be something as simple as replacing the gas cap.
P0445 - Evaporative Emission Control System Purge Control Valve Circuit Shorted is located in the engine compartment and is most likely the root of the problem.Would check the plug and wiring going to this to verify that no plug or wiring damaged has occurred. It is quite possible the part has gone bad.
The check engine light means that something is going wrong with the engine, electric, or emissions part of your vehicle. it will need to be hooked to a scanner to find out what the trouble codes are. Usually Autozone will scan and give you the codes for free. get them and post them here and i will try to help you with the diagnostics
I have a dodge stratus and the engine light is on and it drives and its as though someone stopped it with a grabbing sensation but its not the brakes they are not involved. i thought the pause and cut off was caused by the transmission but it not that either
I think the problem is from the Emission System, something must have gone worng with it. and sometimes it is necessary to check the O2 Sensor as well. But it will be better you scan your car with the computer and so as to know where the problem comes from, so the error code from the scanning will now indicate the repair to be done on your car.
Kindly take your car to an Auto Service Center to retrieve the error codes and then ask then to repair it for you or you forward the error codes to us so as to know the best repair to be done on the car. Thanks
it is possible, there are sensors that monitor the flow, and report accordingly to the PCM. if the emission pump is going bad, yes that will make the engine light come on, but it doesnt take long for those things to just go out at all. as far as it making the hoses go bad.....unless you have a ridiculous amount of pressure coming out (which you cant) then there is no way the hose could go bad, because the only things it could do would be to either get so hot, it melts, or the hose just blows out.
pump going bad? maybe....hose going bad because of the pump? no. use a diagnostic tester on the jeep and look at the trouble codes. because if you want to know whats wrong with the vehicle, ask it.
