This was a problem with my 91 accord as well. it would irritate me to no end because one minute she would start and the next she wouldnt....i did notice that she would have a lot more trouble starting if it was a hot day or if i left her out in the sun for long periods. anyeays, the mechanics at the shop said this was a common problem with this model car due to a malfunctioning chip that does not tolerate heat very well..... luckily they were right and i was in and out of the shop in no time.
Do you ever pay attention to when this is happening? It is typical of these vehicles to start fine in the morning with no problems, but they will not start in the middle of the day (mostly due to the heat). This is a common problem with the Accords, and it is usually fixed by replacing the Main Relay located underneath the driver's side dashboard underneath the silver cruise control unit. I would replace that before I spent the time and money digging into the fuel pump or fuel pump check valve.
Could also be your ignition coil going bad, from being overheated inside the distributor. It will cause all the symptoms you described to a tee.
Sounds like the fuel pump check valve is bad, this means every time you start the car the fuel pump has to fill and pressurize the line to the engine, that takes time, and causes a long crank time. The check valve is part of the pump, the pump, it can be accessed by removing the rear seat cushion I believe.
