When the engine is idling, the van dies, this is even happening when I slow down to make a turn. Also it will not shift out of drive, it only shifts out of drive about 10 percent of the time. I read the codes on the problems but I need someone to translate the codes and let me know what parts I need and the steps to fix the problem.
For the issue with it dying, sounds like Mass Air Flow or Fuel Pressure Regulator. For the shifting, hopefully not major transmission issue. Could be the Torque Converter, that probably being best case scenario.

You may want to do a fuel pressure test to start. The pump could be defective. The fuel pressure should hold steadily and not decline with the pump off. If the fuel pressure falls, you either have a fuel leak, stuck injector, faulty fuel pressure regulator, or a bad fuel pump check valve. If the pressure holds at the correct spec, note the pressure as the engine runs and then dies. If the guage shows correct pressure, you can then move on ruling out the fuel system.
I cannot see how adding a fuel additive would help to be honest. I would be looking for a split or leaking vacuum line, I have even seen a leaking evap canister before that caused a similar problem.
Does the engine pull clean and strong when it is warm or at cruising speeds? Does it feel like its running lean or misfiring?
I had the same problem with my 1992 Transport. I fixed it by replacing the ignition module which took about 20 minutes, and should be easily accomplished by anyone with moderate repair skills. The problem with mine faulty ignition module was resolved temporarily by unplugging/re-plugging it from the computer (under the dash), or unplugging/re-plugging it from the distributor assembly harness. Every time I reseated the connector, the engine started up fine. I could also let the engine set a while, and it would restart. However, when it was decided to fail, there was no fuel being injected into the engine. This is logical since the ignition module tracks the engine RPM and sends this data to the computer to tell it how much fuel to inject. Check your fuel injectors when you crack it over when you experience the problem, and if you get no fuel, it's likely your ignition module. I think i paid 30 bucks at autozone for a new one.
