Hi I need to replace the serpentine belt on Hyundai tucson (2004) the problem is the air con pulls seems to have siezed, can I get a smaller belt as I don't really need air con in scotland. Cheers

my autodata belt book shows 18 hyundai belt set ups 1992 to2012 and only one that runs a special belt for the ac
for all the rest the ac pulley is required as the belt runs around it to drive power steering, alternator , water pump
test the ac pulley by removing the belt( after drawing a diagram of how it runs ) and trying to spin the pulley
if it is as you say have a mobile mechanic/ ac mechanic come and remove the pulley and replace the bearing ( about 1 1/2 hour and $20.00 for the bearing
if the pulley spins then disconnect the wire to the compressor so that the clutch is not engaged for the compressor

Squealing,I have new belts and alternator.

Squealing is associated with belt slippage. 1) ensure that the belt is tight - at the longest distance between two pulleys it should be possible to twist the belt by about 90 degrees only. 2) with the engine running check funder the hood or the free running of the pulleys. a) Ask a colleague to engage the power steering from lock to lock and see if the power steering pump pulley does not cause slippage. b) set the air con to low and watch what happens when the compressor pump solenoid engages. If the belt begins to slip on the air con compressor pulley it is likely that the compressor is beginning to fail by seizing up. In that event preserve the belt simply switch the air con off and pray for cooler weather until the compressor can be overhauled.

Broken v belt and pulley for air conditioning .I am getting conflicting information about replacing the air con pulley. Can the air con pulley be supplied on it's own part or do I have to buy the power...

I would put the whole unit with the pulley because you will need special tools that cost more than the money you would save to remove the old pulleys, also the bearings may be damaged.-why did the belt break! I would look very closley at you crankshaft damper and make sure the rubber insert did not come apart and groove out your front cover- it is a common problem with these type of engines. also your compressor has no clutch it is a continuos running compressor that changes the stroke of the pistion via a wobble plate so I think the only way to get this compressor is with a clutch. Every p.s. pump I have replaced on that model always came with a pulley on it-you just need to swap the reservoirs and install a new "0' ring.

On the 92, the belt closest to the engine goes around the power steering pump, water pump, and crankshaft pulley.

The second belt goes around the alternator and the crankshaft pulley.

The third belt goes around the a/c and crankshaft pulley.

Ford escort zx2, can't get a pictue of the right way the serpetine belt go on

Hi there!

As a general rule, fit it over grooved pulleys, then bring it over the tensioner pulley to run on the flat side. It will only go on in one position.

I'll search for a diagram for you if you give the engine details.
