Well if the fuel filter was plugged it has already caused damage to the fuel pump, first thing you need to do is check to see how much pressure is getting to the fuel rail, then check the volume, if this is all ok then you may have a dirty injector... if not look at your pump itself.

Good Luck

STARTS BUT WON'T STAY RUNNING

Could be something as simple as a dirty fuel filter.
Get a can of quick start at the store and have someone start it up, when it wants to die squirt a shot into the intake ... if it runs again for a bit you have a fuel delivery issue. Check the fuel pressure to see if the pump is functioning properly.

A vacuum hose cut will cause a lot of symptoms, A code indicating a rich conditions indicates a lack of air, or too much fuel. A dirty air filter or a leaking injector will cause this. A faulty O2 sensor will also cause this condition.

Based on the condition of the plugs it sounds like its running rich. I almost wonder if someone sold you the wrong pumps and you have too much pressure or something.

Could also very well be whacked injectors. I am thinking it may even be a timing issue...

Try replacing the fuel filter and check the fuel pressure at the shredder valve. Low fuel pressure from a week fuel pump or dirty fuel filter will cause hard starts, a bad ground will also do the same thing so check the ground wire for the fuel pump which is separate from the main wire harness to the fuel pump sending unit.

Good luck and thank you for using FIxya.

The car was running started to stall shut off, then it would restart.shut off a couple of times last night but would restart.today it stalled and wont start at all cranks over fine but no attempt to fire?

Your fuel filter may have gotten to the end of it's life and needs to be replaced. Start with the simple and replace the fuel filter, a dirty fuel filter will not set the check engine light to come on, at worst it's a weak fuel pump and that may need to be replace. Good luck and thank you for using Fixya.

No power, hard starts

Have you replaced the fuel filter, spark plugs and wires? A plugged fuel filter will cause a fuel pump to go bad because it works harder to pump. It also may cause less pressure. Plugs, wires cap and rotor will cause lack of power and fail you on a load if they haven't been replaced for a while.
