Question about Honda del Sol

2 Answers

I recently replaced my radiator as it was leaking along the intire top connection. i replaced the stock number with a alluminium welded radiator and it worked fine, however, today after about 3 or so months of hassle free driving the radiator seems to be leaking... i havent had a chance to see exactly where its leaking from as i am currently at uni, but i know that it is definately low down on the radiator, as the top half (ie. everything i could see above the fan) showed no new signs of a leak (eg. stains drips etc.). talking about a worst case scenario, ie. its the radiator leaking not one of the connecting pipes, what should i do to avoid future problems?

Depending on what area of teh country you are in, your elevation level actually helps decide the amount of pressure in the cooling system. I would suggest replacing the radiator cap, and installing a lower temperature thermostat in the vehicle. Also, take a minute and flush the cooling system completely, making sure it is completely clean.

Radiator leaking

When a radiator starts springing leaks its time to replace. You can try rad weld or similar hole plugging solutions, and they work quite well too, but it won't last long. Sometimes, if you can actually see the leak, it can be soldered shut. If it's hard to see leak then maybe get new rad.

Toyota corolla 1993 water pump leaking and steam coming from top of radiator. added chem and weld solution to radiator recently

Since the water pump is leaking there is low action of the water pump to circulate the water into the engine jackets and the radiator.
So you need to remove and overhaul or replace the water pump, replace the gasket, check the radiator for leaks with high pressure test, replace with a good cap and the fault of heating and steaming will be gone. Also check the timing of the engine, do a tune up.

Radiator leaks around the top seal

I would take the vehicle to a radiator shop for service, they take apart the radiator and flush and clean every line and put it back together, also, they flush the cooling system and if you want, they replace the thermostat and hoses. I you've never have a cooling system service done to your vehicle. It is time. The cost will be less than just replacing the radiator and your vehicle will run cooler.
When you use a Radiator Sealant, the remains will seat at the bottom of the radiator plugging some lines or clogging the cooling passages and a couple of months later the leak comes back. I don't know any radiator sealant that guarantees a permanent fix and tell you where the rest of the stuff you put in the cooling system went. I don't believe that just dissolves and stays on the system to prevent future leaks.
If the leak is on the metal part of the radiator, if you weld it you'll be ok, but when the leak is where the plastic and metal meet, then the above suggestion will do. If the plastic cover is cracked, just get a new radiator. Good Luck!! Don't forget to rate this post!! 4 thumbs will be fine!!

Don't waste your time with stop leak. It gums up everything- the radiator and the block. Spend the money and get a radiator. A patch is temporary at best and probably will start leaking again.
