Opppsss.. was this transmission serviced regularly?..no, ok.. this is a common problem, you will need to take it to s QUALIFIED PROFESSIONAL to get the trans rebuilt.. If you live near a local drag strip, go there, ask the drag race mechanics who the best transmission man there is?? There is always one or two the drag racers relay on.. I would trust him to get it done right (BEFORE I would trust a "chain" transmission store!!!!!)
I, personally, have had two transmissions do this.. one a 96 suburban and a 95 Silverado.(both inherited and never serviced).. I found the guy that did mine this same way.. GLAD I DID.. it was less $$$$ and great work!! If no drag strip.. ask the custom car guys...
Hello You will need to have an experienced technical drive this before attempting any repairs, but my gut feeling is that you will need to rebuilt the transmission. That takes many special tools and a high degree of skill and training and is not something that really can be done at home with common hand tools.
this can be caused by a few things, like bad lockup seloniod or converter or weak trany, the first thing i would try that sometimes works but is a 50/50 shot is a BG trany service, google it to read up on it, it a machine filled with 16 quarts of fluid and start by adding a cleaner into trany and run a few minutes even drive it then hook machine up to lines and start the engine it then begins to remove the old fluid while putting in the new, its like a transfusion, when it done a conditioner is added, i've done a lot of these and some times it help and sometimes it does not, but i would start there, this runs about $150.00, good luck and hope this helps,
first thing is to make sure trany fluid is full, start engine and check while in park,if oil level is good then i would have to say trany is bad, usually the motors are pretty good, those cars are famous for trany problems take it to a trany shop and have it checked out. good luck.
some water from the tail pipe is normal but if the car is running bad then it is possible the head gasket is blown. on the escorts that i have owned i have found that the main relay is usually burned and needs to be replaced. it is possible that the fan is dragging and burning this relay up if this relay is good then you may be better off taking it to the electrical shop.
you millage is a little off this truck gets its best millage at 55-60mph and should be around 18 have your looked at the drive system front hubs dragging brakes stock tire size? and sure the front hubs are not turning .
i have worked on more cars this year trying to get better millage then i have in 25 years combined.
If Orange, ok, if flashing Orange, still OK to drive. If flashing RED, better not drive too far. Go to Auto-Zone; they read the codes AND print the explanation of the code; ...
... THEN, TAKE CARE OF PROBLEM ... do not just drive into hell.
