What causse the steering column on a 2002 pontaic aztek to have alot of play with it

that area is a joint and it has a pin there that maybe bad and that would cause some play. i think that you aiso check your pitman arm and gear box that is most likely where the play is. good luck!

I have 97 chinok motorhome on e350 chasis. have replaced all 4ball joints, new shocks, front end inspected, new steering stabilizer, new tires but still hve a wander in steering. would any one have any ideas?...

You said that you had the front end inspected so I assume that all 4 tie rod ends are good and the front end was aligned. Changing parts without re-alignment can create a wandering condition. If that is the case then your problem could be play in the steering box, which should have some adjustment. You should also check the bushings in your control arms. They are rubber and will deteriorate over time, creating excessive play in the front end. Hope this helps.

Front end off the ground, you can move the tire freely as if steering, moving the tire by hand. what parts are worn out

Check the steering column bushing under the rubber boot in the engine bay. It is easy to miss when checking front end parts and (if worn or broken) creates alot of freeplay in the steering.

Extreme play in steering wheel. Experts say the front end parts are fine and they tightened the steering box. but still alot.

First check the 'rag joint" in the steering shaft. If this is good repair, The steering box assembly at the frame should be replaced. although there is an adjustment known as the (over center high point steering adjustment) the box will show as adjusted until there is a load placed on the steering assembly. Excess play in the steering of dodge trucks is a very common issue. The only true way I have ever solved this issue is to replace the steering box. ( always make sure all front end parts are in good service and within normal wear prior to replacing the steering box). ****Remember there is always personal safety at risk. NEVER leave any steering issue unresolved******

My steering wheel is not stright if i turn it stright it pulls to the right an i just got an alignment 2 days ago. an i also have alot of play in my steering wheel

You should take it back to the shop that did the alignment. Making sure the steering wheel is straight is part of the alignment. With there being play you may need to have some front-end work done. Have them check it.

Excessive steering play.

Yes it could be all of those and more. But, only an inspection by a mechanic with the car up on a lift will tell you.

Play in steering

Play in the steering is a good sigh that a front end steering part is worn out,Inner,or outer tie rod ends,or a idle arm or such.Best to have it checked, can be dangerous. Also chances are,if it is a tie rod,a aliegnment will be needed after part,or parts are replaced.
