We have a toyota prado 2002 we imported to southern africa from Japan. During shipment, the engine control unit (ECU) was stolen. We purchased a used ECU but it cannot communicate with the master key and we don't have the code. If we buy a new computer and new transponder - will they communicate? Do we need the code for the old computer?

Thanks for choosing FixYa and welcome to the site. You want to make sure the new computer is already reprogrammed for your car before you get it. You need to find out what computer number you had for your vehicle. You should be able to use the vin number to find out what is was. On most vehicles, you have to have it programmed first before it will work correctly in your vehicle. You can try calling a local dealership and asking them. You can also look ECU up on Google and call one of the companies that only deal with ECU's. They will be able to determine what computer you need and what needs done. If you have any questions, feel free to ask and thanks for using FixYa.

Where is the ecm on a 1990 Toyota pickup

The Engine Control Module (ECM) on a 1990 Toyota pickup with a 3.0L V6 engine is typically located in the engine compartment, near the firewall on the driver's side. It may be mounted on the inner fender, near the battery or behind the air cleaner assembly. It is a rectangular black box with connectors on one end and it should have the letters "ECM" or "ECU" written on it. It's also important to note that on a 1990 Toyota truck it is also called the Engine Control Unit (ECU) and both ECM and ECU are interchangeable.

I need to change the language from Japanese to English on my Multi AV Station in my Prado 2003 I imported from Japan.

so hard to say:
Toyota Land Cruiser Prado is the head end AV day ONE, 2003 original ?
ask them (toyota) or Panasonic
I bet Panasonic sends you to TOYOTA. (sub licensee)
there are 4 kinds of head ends made,
1: universal , many lang.
2: only works in Japan
3: or only works in country X
there are only 2 ways to know this.
1: ask them (maker of head end AV or ask car maker)
2: find the settings, for LANG, if not there ,it is not there.
the cure is , if lucky
there is a firmware update to fix that. ask them and we are NOT THEM. I as talk top TOYATA the name you never said.

How to replace check engine light bulb on a 2002 toyota landcruiser

Hello Susan,

Your check engine light is located in your vehicles dash cluster and will only illuminate when a fault is detected..no detected faults..no light, although it should illuminate (to prove it is working) for a short period of time at each engine start up.

If your light does not confirm operation during the start cycle, explore for access to the lights wiring connector behind the instrument panel cluster to see if you can easily remove the lamp from the cluster...sometimes it it easier to remove the dash trim bezels and remove the cluster from the dash to change lamps.

Of course your Toyota's engine management systems are controlled by an computer generally referred to as a ECM (engine control unit (ECU), also commonly called an engine control module) so if your lamp fails to illuminate during the start cycle the problem may not be due to a simple lamp failure.

Have recently imported a used PM12 from japan to Southern africa. My mechanics are suggesting that the thermostat must be removed before I use the vehicle as this will make the vehicle to overheat because...

if the thermostat is ok, then i cannot see why it would be a problem

that said, i would accept the advice of local mechanics out there and remove it if they think it may be a problem. a car without a thermostat takes a little longer to warm up. that should not be a issue in southern africa...
