Thanks for using FixYa and welcome. You need fuel, air, and fire to start the car. Since it is cranking, you need to make sure the engine is getting gas. Check your fuel pump, filter, gas lines, and fuel injectors. If you continued to try to start the car, it may be flooded now. Make sure no fuel is leaking from the rails or your lines. Listen to see if you can hear the fuel pump kick on. If not, check the fuses, relays, and reset, if equipped. If this all checks out, you need to start looking at the ignition system. Check the plugs, coils, wires, distributor, dist.cap, coil packs, rotor. It could be a cam sensor or your crank sensor. Make sure it is not the timing belt/chain. Check to make sure it is not broken or slipping. There is a slight chance it could be your computer. You need to try and get a code off your computer. Try and get the code, if your check engine light on that is. This is your best bet because there are so many parts that can cause the car to do this. If you can get a code, it may lead you to the right part, saving you time and money because none of these parts are cheap. If you have any questions, feel free to ask and thanks for using FixYa.
Sounds like bad fuel pump or clogged fuel filter. when the key is turned to the on position not trying to start the car but just to on position can you hear a slight hum from the fuel pump?
