I have a 1989 f150 EFI I just purchased, my question is when you try to start it, it act like a cold carburator it dies, you have to goose it and rev a little while once it warms up it idles great and runs great but once its shut off for a couple of minutes its hard to start again. I had a 1989 F150 V8 5 speed for 15 years. The TPS is located on the underside of the throttle body and I feel it would get cooked by the engine heat. I replaced it several times, but the symptom was that it would stall while turning corners. An easy check is if the RPM's decrease when you turn on the AC, its not doing its job.

it could be the idle air control sensor/solenoid on the throttle body if its TBI, its near the air intake on the TBI , also near the throttle position sensor, try pulling the wire harness off of the idle solenoid and starting it, if it does the same thing, that might have been it, theyre expensive new but we got the whole TB at junkyard for 20.00
if it isnt that I suggest getting a code reader or taking it in so you dont waste money..

Good Luck

Sounds like your tank pump may have failed. this vehicle has two and one is on the frame. It can **** gas through the old one.

Another possibility is the fuel line has a leak in it.

Did you change the spark plugs in the tune up?

I have a 1989 Ford f150 drive for about 30 minutes it dies out or stop and want crank for about an hour

I would unplug the gas cap when it stalls; if you hear a hissing sound, change the gas cap, because it builds up a vacuum in the tank.

Check fuel pressure. Your fuel pump could be at fault. Did you install your fuel filter correctly?

Sounds like the fuel pressure regulator in your EFI (carburator). Sorenson make a rebuild kit complete with gaskets, screens and regulator for around $30.

Does back pressure have anything to do with vacuum in a 1989 ford f150 4.9 litre efi engine

Hi, Sounds like you have an air intake leak. Most likely a bad gasket on the manifold to the engine block. Replace with new one. Good luck.

My 1986 Ford F-150 5.0 EFI runs good, but when I start it it revs to 1700 rpm untill I give it a little gas then it drops to normal rpm. How do I stop it from the high revs when started?

Does it rev high when started cold or hot? If it does it either hot or cold, check the throttle position sensor on throttle body. If that is not bad, then check the automatic choke sensor.
