Question about 2000 Ford Windstar

Windstar garbage arter changing sterio van will crank but wont start.checked fuses.all i done was took the batt cable off to conect amp wireing.could comp go that fast

    thank you the problem is the 2000 winstar well crank over but will not start.all i did was put in a new sterio .batt cable was taken off before anything was done

    does the vehicle have a remote start system installed.take off the gas cap have some turn the key on the key and see if u can listen for the fuel pump to come on.

Did you try starting the van while giving it half (or more) throtle? sometimes, but not usually, after removing a battery a vehicle's computer needs to "re-learn" some of its programing. the vehicle won't start or idle without some throtle. taking the vehicle for a drive if you can get it started will get the computer working properly agian if that is the problem.

Hello Hugh, You need to check the voltage at the glow plugs.. Just because you hear the relay clicking does not mean it is working properly.

Wont start

This may be a little to much info all at once but you have to start some where. Are you getting a strong blue arc at coil during cranking or while at idle if so coil is good and if it is orange in color then its a week coil. Get a volt/OHm meter and check alternatetor voltage out put, and use grounding tab at rear of alt. while testing. You want 14 to15+ volts and any thing below 14v may not be giving enough operating voltage nor a good batt. charge. You can also disconect POS. term. from batt. while at idle then turn your head lights on high beam and if van shuts off then that would also indicate a faulty Alt or voltage regulatetor. Also the (MAP sensor) may be your problem,It takes info from manifold pressure and it gives info to PCM that will dictate how much fuel is needed and also sets the corect timing for proper running. or (Throttle postion sensor) can also cause this problem or Idle Air Controle on left side of throttle body. Make sure that your grounds are good at batt. to frame and alternatetor and have alt. checked for free at most parts stores. Most of the small things that send info to PCM such as TPS, MAP, IAC, are cheap in cost And be for you spend a dime make sure that all fuses and relays are clean and testing good and check all wiring conections that you can see and get your hands on before you go on the wild goose chase. This will only cost you your time and the cleaning may do the trick. Been there done that and then some, so Good Luck.

1994 E150 van ford no alt power have changed the alt. charged the batt

There is a fuse or fuseable link between the alt and battery, and the alt gets a signal from the key to activate the voltage regulator.
I would check for batt voltage at the alternator and you may need a wiring diagram to check for key voltage.

I cant get my truck started it turns over but wont start i think it might be the connection to the battery how do i change the battery cables

if it turns over but will not start, its either theft locked or the fuel pump is bad . start by checking the fuses in the fuse box under the hood .. if there is a problem like it was jumped with the cables backward it will blow one of the 40 or 50 amp fused in the fuse box, if those are ok see if the theft light is flasing, some 98s do have trasponder keys the can loose program. if the theft light is no on and the fuses are good check the inertia switch it will shut off fuel to the engine. its located in the right front kick panel ,remove the kick panel and make sure its pushed, if all that is ok and you still think its the cables , have some one crank the engine while you wiggle the cables if it starts then and you do need to replace the cable the easyest way is to buy the cable extesions at the parts house, that is a cable end with a piece of batt, wire that has a screw fastener ,just cut the old batt, cables of strip the ends and insert into the new fastner and tighten the screw

2000 xterra wont crank. just a click when i try to crank. new starter batt is good. ??????

check your postive and neg,cables to the starter ,if there is alot of corrision on the wires you wont get a good signal

99 saturn sl1 wont pass inspection

try disconnecting the negative batt wire let sit for 3 mins.reconnect batt should reset the comp.if not pull the pcm fuse from the inside batt box.and i would think that they would be nice enough to hook it 2 the comp and erase the code for u.but if ur light is on go 2 auto zone or advanced auto and have them hook it up 2 there comp and see if they could erase it for u.dont worry if your lights on they do it for free.if the above doesnt work have them check your alt.thers not many more things it could be put your check your wires .start the car and discont the negative wire from batt while running and if the car stalls its your alt.also make sure all ur wire terminals to and from batt to al are clean
