The Taurus has a problem with the electrical switch that the ignition key actuates, it comes apart and there is no connection made to the starter when you try to start engine, is this your issue? no crank? What year is the car, it does not happen on the late 90's cars, the earlier ones were recalled.

I have a 1977 ford f100 when I turn it over it just clicks have replaced the battery starter solenoid alternator and when it done that I hooked up jumper cables and the truck tried to crank by itself

Bad battery - weak due to bad cell OR
1st choice: Loose or corroded battery cables or broken cables -- insufficient or no power to starter or ignition system,
2nd choice: battery solenoid (mounted on fender liner) faulty or loose/broken connection,
3rd choice: actual ignition switch (under dash by steering column broken)(not where the key goes),

My 2003 monti carlo engine will not turn over at all, radio quit too, i know it controls functions to the car too. I jump wired the starter, it turns over fine, starts, shuts down immediatly, security

Security Feature:Before anything mechanical 1st) You can try locking your car and unlocking it "WITH YOUR KEY" on the drivers door. if that doesn't work 2nd) Try turning key to on position and allowing it to sit in the on position for 10 minutes and 3rd) you can disconnect both negative and positive battery cables and use a vice grip or something of that nature to hold the 2 cable ends together for I believe 10 minutes. All 3 of these are known techniques for resetting the security feature.

Mechanical: I would have your alternator tested, but before that disconnect your starter and remove the cable running to your battery and thoroughly clean both ends of all the wires, you may want to bend them while you have them out may be some corrosion built up. if after you do this it starts and runs fine then you should replace the wire(s)

I hope one of these help you with fixing / diagnosing your problem.

02 subaru outback won't start. when I turn the key everything turns on like normal but when I get to the point where the starter should engage it just clicks one time. Shop says starter is good. It...

HMMMM thinking aloud here ,_-_--hmmm right have you run a hot wire from + on battery to the small terminal on the starter if so and it cranks then its either starter relay or the ignition switch ,but if starter turns ok with the hot wire then before you go any further try the spare key if still no joy with spare key then its electrical fault if it starts with teh spare key then your other key has lost its chip or been close to a mobile phone or TV screen and blanked the magnetic bar code .

When i turn the key it sounds like rat a tat tat but does not start.

Hi I am Vortash the Rat a tat tat sound is probably the solenoid on the starter trying to kick in ,, now either the battery is dead or not enough power to turn it over the starter has jammed ( if your pick up is a manual gearbox try rocking the car in gear to free it ) or if an automatic a socket spanner on the crankshaft nut , car in neutral and turn it by hand see if you can hear the starter motor turning also or if the engine is jammed ... )
Bad Battery will also cause this as will poor charging from alternator and the battery runs low of juice .
A more drastic and serious reason this can happen is a cambelt failure piston is on the valves so engine will not turn making the solenoid cut in and out as it trys to turn the engine . hope for your sake it isn't that ?. finally if all that fails remove starter refurbish clean and or replace ..,. regards Vortash
