The traction control light and cruise control indicator lights light up upon initial key-turning, so the lamps are good. However when we engage the cruise control or press the trac off button, the indicator lights do not turn on. The cruise control does work, we are not so certain about the traction control. We need this solved somehow as I cannot get my van smog checked until the tech can be certain the traction control is truly off. He did mention using an engine scanner to disengage the traction control, and we have a pocket scanner, but can't seem to figure out how to do that either. Can anyone please help?

A pocket scanner does not have the capability reset the traction control or the ABS light. You need an expensive scanner for that.

SOURCE: horn,airbag light,cruise control

ON CERTAIN MINIVANS, THE DRIVER'S AIR BAG MAY BECOME DISABLED DUE TO A FAILURE OF THE CLOCKSPRING, WHICH IS LOCATED IN THE HUB OF THE STEERING WHEEL. Consequence Summary: THIS CONDITION WILL MANIFEST ITSELF THROUGH ILLUMINATION OF THE AIR BAG WARNING LAMP, AND COULD EVENTUALLY RESULT IN A DRIVER'S AIR BAG OPEN CIRCUIT, IF THE PART IS NOT REPLACED IN A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME. Corrective Summary: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE CLOCKSPRING ASSEMBLY ON ALL COVERED VEHICLES WITH 70,000 MILES OR LESS. FOR THOSE VEHICLES WITH MORE THAN 70,000 MILES, DAIMLERCHRYSLER WILL OFFER AN EXTENDED LIFETIME WARRANTY UNDER WHICH IT WILL REPLACE THE CLOCKSPRING AT NO CHARGE IF IT FAILS. DAIMLERCHRYSLER WILL ALSO REIMBURSE OWNERS WHO HAVE PAID TO HAVE THE CLOCKSPRING REPLACED ON THEIR VEHICLES. THE RECALL BEGAN ON OCTOBER 12, 2004. OWNERS SHOULD CONTACT DAIMLERCHRYSLER AT 1-800-853-1403. A malfunctioning clockspring can also effect your cruise control, radio, wipers, and your horn relay. This can also happen one at a time til none of these are working. The solotion is to get the clockspring replaced . I DO NOT suggest you doing this on your own!

SOURCE: Engine light and ABS traction control light remain

The ABS sensor is a speed sensor also for Traction Control. This is why both lights are on , One of your front ABS sensors are bad or disconnected, or has a pinched wire.

How difficult is it to replace the brake pedal positioning sensor?

How do you know brake pedal positioning sensor needs to be replaced ? Traction light on ? DTC'S - diagnostic trouble code's stored . That's why cruise won't engage . Taking your vehicle to a qualified repair shop an having it diagnosed is what you should do.
Cruise Control Inhibited
The engine control module (ECM) inhibits the cruise control operation when any of the following conditions exist:
• The ECM has not detected a brake pedal activation from the body control module (BCM).
• A Cruise Control System DTC has been set.
• The vehicle speed is less than 40.2 km/h (25 mph).
• The vehicle speed is too high.
• The vehicle is in PARK, REVERSE, NEUTRAL, or 1st gear.
• The engine RPM is too low.
• The engine RPM is too high.
• The system voltage is not between 9-16 volts.
• The Antilock Brake System (ABS)/Traction Control System (TCS) is active for more than 2 seconds.

Do the stop lamps work ?
DTC P0703 Brake Switch Circuit 2
The body control module (BCM) monitors the brake pedal position sensor. When the brake pedal is applied, the BCM detects a predetermined voltage signal. The BCM sends a GMLAN serial data message to the powertrain control module (PCM) indicating the status of the stop lamps.

DTC P1574 Stop Lamp Switch Circuit
The stop lamp switch signal circuit is a direct hardwire input to the throttle actuator control (TAC) module from the body control module (BCM). The TAC module monitors the stop lamp switch signal circuit in order to detect when the brake pedal has been applied. When the brake pedal is pressed, the BCM sends a GMLAN serial data message to the powertrain control module (PCM) indicating that the brake pedal has been applied. The BCM also sends a high voltage signal on the stop lamp switch signal circuit to the TAC module. The TAC module sends a universal asynchronous receiver transmitter (UART) serial data message to the PCM indicating that a brake pedal application has occurred. The PCM will compare the UART serial data message and the GMLAN serial data message in order to confirm that both serial data messages match.

Cruise control wont engage after restarting vehicle

The fact that the light comes on is a good indication that the electronics are working, the most common problem is a vacumn leak. This can be a damaged or cracked vacumn line, a bad check valve, or the dump switch on the brake pedal

What is an ETS light keeps flashing what does this mean

This a technical bulletin for your car
Hope this helps, if it does please leave feedback
Good Luck

File In Section: 5 - Brakes
Bulletin No.: 63-50-09
Date: March, 1996
INFORMATION
Subject:
"ETS OFF" Indicator Lamp On with No DTC's Set Models:
1996 Buick Skylark
1996 Chevrolet Cavalier
1996 Oldsmobile Achieva
1996 Pontiac Grand Am, Sunfire On vehicles equipped with Enhanced Traction System (ETS), the "ETS OFF" indicator lamp may come on and ETS and Cruise Control might become disabled. There may be no ABS or PCM Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC's) stored and there may be no "Check Engine" lamp on. This condition has caused a high rate of unnecessary IPC replacements.
The PCM sets a Type "C" or "D" FAILURE RECORD which sends a message to the Electronic Brake Control Module (EBCM) to turn the "ETS OFF" indicator on and to disable ETS. The PCM can then disable Cruise Control, but may not turn on a corresponding "Check Engine" lamp. These Type "C" or "D" Failure Records are not stored in the normal Current or History menus.
41807575
The technician is instructed to check normal operation of the "ETS OFF" switch and the ETS system. The technician is then instructed to check for Failure Records and directed to Section 6E3-A of the Service Manual, see chart. When the PCM Failure Record is corrected, normal operation of the ETS system and Cruise Control should return.

Which fuse is for cruise control in 2003 ford f150

The fuses for the speed control from the factory are :
Engine Compartment fuse panel #7,
Cab fuse panel Fuses #15, #13, #5

The fuse that goes to the recall part is Fuse #13, 20A

The recall is 05S28. Description: Speed Control Deactivation Switch.
The part number for the recall is : 1L1Z-9F924-AA
The part has a fuse inline that is marked as non serviceable, but 1 revision I saw, it was just an ATM fuse under tape. Not sure if this is the final revision that was used on your truck ( or should have been used ).

The self test for the Cruise Control ( for 00-03 MY, with the CC light on the cluster ) :

With the key off depress and hold the cruise control off button while turning the ignition to the run position, don't start the truck, the cruise light will flash once to let you know it is in self test.
Five additional flashes indicate a bad cruise control servo

Release the cruise off switch and within 5 seconds depress the other switches in sequence:
1. on
2. resume
3. coast
4. set/ accel
The speed control light will flash as each switch is depressed.

If the last one does not flash it may then flash a code

After this the cruise will move the throttle to test the actuator and the cable.
Make sure the throttle returns to idle and turn the key off.
----------------------

Self-Test Diagnostics

WARNING:
This test is a key on engine off (KOEO) test only that is conducted in park only with emergency brake fully engaged.

1. Enter self-test diagnostics by depressing the speed control OFF switch while turning the ignition key ON, making sure the engine does not start and is not running. The speed control indicator on the instrument panel will flash once to indicate that speed control module entered the diagnostic mode. Five additional flashes at this point indicate a defective speed control servo. Release the OFF switch.

2. Press the remaining switches in this sequence: ON, RESUME, COAST and SET/ACCEL.

If the ON switch is not depressed within five seconds after entering the diagnostics mode, the module times out and the procedure must be started over.

The speed control indicator lamp will flash as each switch is depressed. Press each switch in the sequence immediately after the indicator light goes out for the previous switch.

Note:
There will be a slight delay when the last button is pressed and the lamp flashes.

3. A lamp flash with the last button (SET/ACCEL) indicates that the static test passed. If the lamp does not flash with the last button and there are no additional flashes of the lamp, the switch is defective.

If the lamp does not flash with the last button, and additional flashes occur, follow the chart below for trouble codes:

- 2 flashes - BPP defective, circuit is defective, brake applied, CPP switch or jumper (if equipped).

- 3 flashes - deactivator switch is open or circuit defective.

- 4 flashes - vehicle speed signal is out of range or circuit is defective

4. Immediately (.25 second delay) after the static test, the speed control servo does a dynamic test by automatically actuating the throttle lever from 8 mm (0.315 in) to 12 mm (0.472 in) of travel from the idle position. During the dynamic throttle pull, observe throttle movement to witness any binding or sticking of the speed control cable and correct connection of speed control cable to throttle lever. Make sure the throttle returns to the idle position.

5. Return the ignition switch to the OFF position and proceed to the Symptom Chart.

The check engine lights comes on and my cruise

Did you have the recall 05S28, Speed Control Deactivation Switch done ? If not, get this done ASAP. If so, could be the inline fuse in the recall harness is blown. Check for leaking brake fluid on the switch, at the end of the brake booster.
You can try the cruise control self test, to see if the CC is functioning.
