2005 Pontiac Grand Prix Rough Idle on startup, Engine dies when intially taking off

Hi Everyone,

I have a 2005 Pontiac Grand Prix with about 100,000 miles on it. I reciently replaced my PVC valve and have started to have an issue where the car when I first start it will buck at idle between 700 and 1400 rpm, until ti warms up a bit where it calms down and idles steady. Then when I take off in the the car it the tach will rev up then fall and stall out the car even though I am doing 30mph+.

Other than the PVC valve, we have also replaced the Primary solenoid for the secondary AIR system, the AIR pump, and the Secondary solenoid for the secondary AIR system to clear other codes that were happening on the car.

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Rich

I have a similar problem from what i understand this could be a lot of things crankshaft position sensor is a common one, fuel pump, fuel pump resistor, coils, ignition module have you tried changing plugs and wires?
is the engine hot when this happens? if so with the exception of plugs and wires all of the above can be the problem.

Problem with 2005 Pontiac Grand Prix I replaced the catalytic converter on my 05 Grand Prix and drove over 200 miles and still has two incompletes on my scan tool how long is it going to take to complete...

It should have already a few times. Clear the codes with your scanner, the computer will save past faults in the memory, but it doesn't mean the problem is still there.

Here is the PDF owners manual for your car. You have accidentally switched unit type on your (DIC) menu. Please scroll to page 3-52 and it will tell you how to switch from Metric to English

2000 gran prix 3.1 runs fine while driving, but when stopped at a light starts to idle rough

Take the EGR Valve off and clean all the carbon out of it using something to scrape with and use a non-chlorinated brake cleaner.Whenever an EGR Valve gets stuck in the open position it allows exhast gasses into the intake manifold causing the engine to idle really rough, but after you get up to say 45-55 its smooths out thats when the valve should be open.

the 2005 pont, grand prix, doesnt have a timing belt, rather it has a timing chain, this chain is good for 150,000 or more miles.
