I have a stron mildew smell in my car and discovered water on the passenger seat under the seat and on the back floor. I had found this before and thought something must have spilled. Now after driving on a dry day outside it has appeared again.

I have the same problem. The other morning on the way to work my radio system went haywire and I smelled a strong odor of smoke. Was afraid the car was going to catch on fire. Had it towed to the dealer. They are currently working on it...said water was getting in some how and there is an amplifier under the passenger seat and that's what was causing the problem. Sure hope they fix it correctly...it was scary!

take the cover off of the door behind the outside mirror. if there is a hole where the cable goes through.. seal it was some type of elastic caulk such as silicone. water comes in around this when it rains but generally just runs down the door post and onto the carpet

My 2007'camry driver side seatbelt is always damp and car smells like mildew I had car to car dealership twice they can't find out what is causing the problem.

Take out the door jamb floor pieces and pull back the carpeting and check for moisture around the center post behind the drivers seat. Then take it to a car wash and run it through and check again. This is most likely a door seal that is allowing water to enter the vehicle and run down to the floor and gather at the center post.

Why is th carpet wet behind the driver seat in my '02 thunderbird

This can be from one of couple sources. One would be a broken or missing rubber seal in the firewall. Water can and will enter the passenger compartment if the seal is not good or missing. The firewall is the metal between the engine compartment and passenger compartment. There are many penetrations in the firewall for throttle linkage, steering column, electrical harness, etc. All of these penetrations have seals to prevent water from entering. Check to make sure all penetrations have seals. Inspect from under hood and from under the car, too.

Another source is damage to the floor pan. If you went over a rock or jagged object without having enough clearance, it may have punctured or even sliced through the floor - under the carpeting and sound deadening material under it. If you live in a cold area, and the roads are treated with salt or chemicals to melt ice, it may have caused rusting holes to appear in the floor pan. Water spraying up from tires would enter through the puncture or slice and the carpet would wick the water in. It would take a long time to dry and give a musty smell after just a short time. You should inspect the floor pan from underneath the car. Look for punctures, slices and rust / rot. Clean and seal any openings found in the floor pan and firewall.

Fixed windows and glass in the car body are also sources for leaks. The is especially true if glass has recently been replaced. Many times, the back window leaks into the trunk or metal under the rear seat - and flows to the carpeted floor. Look in the trunk at the bottom of the rear window. Side windows can leak, too - so don't forget to look behind trim interior panels on the sides of the back seat. Your leak could be coming from the windshield, too - this will be harder to locate through the dashboard - but you may find water dripping from wires, etc. Look for evidence of water / rust. Clean and reseal body / glass joints when found.

Good luck!

My 1995 Honda Civic LX Passenger Floor was soaked with Water After Heavy Rains

Hi when I work for the Honda dealer 15 years ago We found that when a passengers side is getting wet , My best guess is you have air conditioning in your car. I would bet you the problem is the ac drain hose is clogged, it is on the passengers side under the dash, if you look up where you're feet would be just follow the rug up and you will see the hose remove the hose, be careful removing it from the condenser nipple because it is plastic and can break , use an air house and blow any dirt and debris that maybe clogging the hose . When you remove the hose have a Cup or small bucket to catch any water that's remaining in the condenser , This is a common problem . Once you have those cleared and the condenser cleared the problem should stop. Remember to put the drain hose back on , ps you do not need to put a clamp on the hose it is not under any pressure, after you fix the problem I would remove the seats and pull the rug out and hang it to dry, wipe the floor of any water , you may want to put a fan in the car to dry it out, because if you do not get everything dry your car will start so smell like mold and mildew, and the floor of you car will start to rust up, so get it dry, I hope this helps, I promise you that that's where the waters coming from if you have air condition, just remember water gos down hill not up. Let me know how you make out.

Drain plug for the A/C on my 2000 Hyundai Accent

Its a hose at the front of where the passengers feet area under the hood. Usually the problem is water holds and leaks on the floor. A repair shop may have a spray that they can coat the evaporator and kill the smell.

Water on floor behind front passenger seat

drill a hole through the floor as a quick fix ,if it gets in let it out ,then check for the leak ,try under the firewall where the AC drain pipe is ,it could be the same pipe for drain water coming in from air intake vents

Wet carpet under front Passenger seat

You have drain blockage in the condesor case itself. There is a small tube that will drain the condensor case, the big black plastic case that contains most of your a/c system inside the car. This case collects moisture and that must drain normally from the case drain to the outside of your car onto the ground.. If this drain is plugged, you will have leakage on to the floor. If the moisture is allowed to remain in the carpet, mildew will set in and then you will have to replace the carpet.

Air Conditioning leaks under carpet filling passenger floor with water

The AC condensate drain hole/tube is plugged, the drain is on the passenger side under the car close to the firewall.
