Question about 2000 Jeep Cherokee

2000 Jeep Cherokee AC compressor

The bearings are shot and I was looking for a bypass pulley for this year. No luck...I thought I would search for a compressor from the junk yard and replace the existing one and disconnect the power to the pump...assuming the bearings are good, will this work?

You would have to go to the dealer and check to see if the car would come without a/c and they would have the idler pulley. Option 2 will work also.

I need to bypass my AC compressor and clutch belt so that I can still drive it until I can replace it on my 1997 Jeep Cherokee sport... NOT Grand Cherokee sport

if there is nothing wrong with the ac pulley bearing , just disconnect the power to the compressor and use it as an idle pulley
because the ac pulley is in the system , and another belt that by passes that pulley will have the belt grooves running on a flat idler and the belt life is considerably reduced to over come that will require another idler pulley and bracket

How do I bipassing the a/c withe serpentine belt?

Your gonna type" jeep 4.0 ac bypass pulley" on google and see that Dorman sells a bracket and pulley that goes where the compressor is. Looks like it's around 50 bucks.

Help!! Broke a belt on our Jeep Cherokee 4wd 2000. Air cond clutch froze in place need to by pass, what belt do,or can I use

if the ac compressor won't turn even with the engine off,it's not the compressor but the freewheel bearing inside the pulley,
even if the compressor is bad ,changing the bearing will allow the serp belt to turn the pulley.
I'd just change the bearing .

No. The bearing on the compressor can be replaced without buying an entire compressor.

Before all this.Check the spring loaded tensioner hasn't seized. If the chirping sound IS the a/c comp. and the bypass pulley is on,yes, the a/c is out of the picture.Plan B might be to get a comp. from a wreckers yard.1/4 the price???Hope this helps you

2000 jeep grand cherokee air conditioning

sounds like the clutch field on or bearing on the front of the compressor went bad take a closer look at the pulley on the comp. and see if there is any debris or melted plastic coming out behind the pulley,if so the clutch, field and bearing should be replaced, hope this helps
