I would recommend that you check the fuse panel in your vehicle and make sure that the a/c fuse is good, then I would recommend that you raise the hood, turn your a/c on in the car, and then see if the compressor is cycling on and off. If the fuse is good, then there is a chance that your compressor is low on freon, so you should check this, and if it is low, then charging it should resolve the issue. The second problem is finding out where the leak is that caused the system to lose freon. To do this you will need to add dye to the system and see where it leaks. If the freon level is where it is supposed to be, then you may be looking at a faulty compressor, and will need to replace it, and with that you will need to recharge the system.
Is clutch engaging on compressor if not low freon (leak)
if yes check how long the cycles if short low freon (leak)
if long put hand on lines to compressor one very hot other very cold
if this is your case trap blend door is not functioning in air duct system
if both lines at compressor warm or cold bad compressor
Your AC system most likely needs to be recharged.
SOURCE: air conditioning blowing warm air
my dodge is overheating and the a/c is blowing hot air. i replaced the thermostat but the problem continues. help!
SOURCE: Rear air condition is not working, only the front
No there is only one low and one high side service ports. You have a bad expansion valve on the rear a\c unit.To properly replace the valve, you must first recover the freon from the system. Then remove the cover over the rear unit. Then from under the vehicle remove the two a/c lines from the unit. Then remove mounting bolts and remove rear unit from vehicle. Then you remove the screws that hold the two halves of the case together. You will now see the expansion valve Use extreme care when removing the fittings from the valve. It is very easy to kink the copper lines.Reinstall in reverse order.Be sure to evacuate the system before recharging.

Have you checked the coolant level? What you describe is exactly what happens if the coolant level is low. When stopped at idle, hot coolant is not circulating through the heater core, so no heat. As the engine increases in rpm's when you pull away from the light, the water pump is spinning quicker, and some coolant is making it to the heater core. So check the level, and if it is low, keep an eye on it to see if it drops again. That of course indicates a leak somewhere. Get it fixed, as overheating the engine leads to costly repairs and worse case a new engine. Let me know how you make out with this.
