1992 Toyota Landcruiser engine dies after jumping battery

After jumping my landcruiser...it runs while connected to the jumper cables, but when i disconnect the cables...it dies automatically...is this a battery or alternator problem?

Quick check for a failed alternator: Take a screw driver that can be attracted by a magnet. With the car running (and presumably with the alternater spinning), touch the screwdriver to the middle of the rear of the alternator. If the screwdriver is attracted, then the alternator is at least producing current. If there is NO attraction then the alternator is definately dead.

Hi,if all your connections are good,it sounds like the alternator. I would take the battery out and charge it,then load test it.If it checks good.Take the alternator to autozone or advance and have it checked.Good Luck!!!

Please make sure earth/ground points are tight and free of dirt and corrosion. especially knowing this is off road car. fuses are clean. charge relay is working correctly, main fuse CONNECTIONS are good. the fact that it happens when you move , means most likely a loose connection.

I have 2004 toyota landcruiser, the battery is dead and I cannot get in to open the bonnett/hood to jump start it. The key will not open the door either. Is there any way to open the hood from the outside?

I am not sure this will work on a landcruiser. I have never worked on one. I had a friend who had a car with no door handles just electric latches. He left his lights on one day and could not get in. We jacked the car up, put stands under it, and hooked a booster pack to the starter and a good body ground. This supplied the car with enough power to open the doors so we could jump the thing and get the battery back up.

100 series toyota landcruiser diesel 1hz, engine surging at light throttle and cruising at approx. 60kph. Blows a puff of black smoke from exhaust occasionally.

Landcruiser 100 vx, 2003 model with engine number 1HD-FTE is not starting, I've found out that the fuel pump, starter, battery are all functioning well. Where next should I look at.

What gauge jumper cables are you using? May need a larger set. My mustang wouldn't jump on anything more than 6ga.
Are lights coming on at all? Does the engine make any noise when attempting to start?
Could be an elecreical drain somewhere.
Could be a fuel pump. Does it get fuel?

Jump started v8 2003 landcruiser. Now has no power

Did u jump start it by popping out the clutch while pushing it in first? If so I would say maybe you broke a belt... If it happened while jumping with cables from another car, then you probably blew the fuseable link between the battery / alternator / fuse box...
