Question about 1998 Plymouth Breeze

1 Answer

My mom has this 1998 Playmoth Breeze (car) that has recently started to act up. It runs hot, stalls, and shuts off. She thinks that its the thermostat, water pump, or the hose, but she really can't say for sure. When the heater runs, the car won't run hot. What's going on?

If this car has a transverse engine ( engine sites sideways in engine compartment) as I believe it does you have an electric fan behind the engine's radiator in the front of the engine compartment - when the engine heats up it should come one automaticly - watch your fingers! !
if this fan or the electric themostate or the relay are bad the fan will not come on and the engine will over heat. - Do you know how to use a volt ohm meter to test the circuit.
as long as no hose is kinked off - its not a hose.
it can still be the coolant thermostat in the engine.
it may be a pluged engine radiator.
you may have low coolant in the system - have you checked that?
good luck

Stalling when hot

Change the thermostat in it, You over heat it real bad ,There a chance of the motor seazing up, Allso is the water pump working, Or there could be a blockage, That is causeing it to over heat.

2003 camry 2.4 engine. Overheated and it shut off. Try to start car, the pulleys move but the car doesn't act like it is cranking over

You need a motor. If it overheated and stalled as a result than you cooked the engine.

You have to look at vehicle data & do some testing.

You can't ask someone what anything is, on any product,
a guess isn't how things are figured out.

You could have a worn out fuel pump or a long over due

My car will start and run for about 1/2 hr then it will chug and stall. It will not start again until it sits for about 1 hr. Added fuel injector cleaner but problem still there. I can hear the fuel pump...

you say you can hear the fuel pump working is that shortly after when it quits running you hear it or when it starts and runs, fuel pumps will work sometimes until it gets hot then it seizes until it cools off then there is enough clearance for it to work until it gets hot again.the chugging you mentioned sounds like it is running out of fuel.

Will not start

Open the air filter container. Spray some starting fluid in and see if it starts. If it starts, it is the fuel filter or fuel pump or both.
