when i took my 96 mustang GT in to have the AC re charged, the compressor was kicking in. I knew this because I felt a noticeable loss of power and a little cooler air blowing in. Now here is the catch. the power loss came and went as I drove. The mechanic told me that when the car is low on Freon the compressor will come on and off as a reaction to having just a little bit of freon; thereby explaining the on and off again loss of power. They called me later and told me my compressor wasnt engaging and that I had a leak in the right side port valve. Because I cant afford the electric systems diagnostics they recommended, they took out all the freon and said to roll the windows down for ac. The compressor worked when I took it in there and now it doesn't.. and it doesnt. I turn on the ac and there is no loss of power anymore, no cool air. just hot air. what did they do in the process of charging my AC, to make the compressor stop engaging?when i took my 96 mustang GT in to have the AC re charged, the compressor was kicking in. it's either low (in spite of your readings) or your a/c clutch is not working correctly or you have too big an air gap in the clutch.
First, just disconnect the 2 pin connector from the a/c pressure cycling swithc and jumper the 2 pins with a wire to force the clutch to stay engaged. See if it blows cold then, and stays engaged. You can run this way for about 15 minutes before you have to pull the plug.
report reulsts.
The ac will blow sold when its cold outside.It is just the air from the outside. You need to check to see if the ac clutch is turning when the ac is switch own.You may have a bad ac compressor
The best thing to do first is to check the AC clutch itself if it's working, locate the air - con compressor and you will see a wire coming out from the front top of the AC-compressor, it has a connection, remove tht connection and take a piece of wire, connect it to the wire frm the AC-compressor and the other end of the wire to the battery positive terminal,by doing so you will hear a clicking sound of the clutch at the AC-compressor, better still is to start the car's engine, switch 'ON' the AC as normal, let the blower blow thn connect tht wire frm the AC-compressor to the positive side of the battery terminal and check it out if the AC-compressor rotates and also you may get in the car and see if its blowing cold air.
Please also check this -->
HEAT/COLD selector (on the dash) is not selected at HEAT...if it is thn the AC-compresor clutch will not kick in!
Hope this helps!
start car.turn on air conditioner high cool .raise hood look to see if the compressor clutch is engaged and running.if yes your ac air door could be stuck closed or the air door vacuum actutator not receiving vacuum.a vacuum line is broken or off. or the control switch bad.that control the AC and heater mode. if compressor clutch is not engagged.check for power at compressor clutch.if yes compressor clutch coil open. or the air conditioner refrigerant R 134 is low take car to a private garage with a good reputation. they wont be expensive as the dealership.have them hook car air conditioner to a manifold gauge set to check your refrigerant low side and high side pressure.
