I have a broken vacuum line at a valve behind the abs. there is a smaller line that goes to a plastic line in the wiring harness i can not find where the the broken one goes. Need vacuum diagram for 4.3l v6

The plastic line in the wiring harness goes to the heater controls; and believe it or not , the other end goes to the vacuum tank - but its in the FENDER !!!!! behind the ABS, kinda under the drivers side hood hinge - great place to put one ain't it ? No wonder GM is going broke !! Good Luck
Ok, I didnt have a problem with the hidden nipple.. but the little hard plastic line is broken and I cant find the other end of it where it broke.. I noticed somebody said it is in the wiring harnes. is this right? how do i get to it? just start cutting away the wrapping around the harness?

In my case (1995 S10) it was as simple as the temperature control potentiometer. The pot contacts were crushed, God knows what breaks and shorts happened there. Replaced the pot and all works like a charm.
You didn't mention WHICH ENGINE your Explorer is equipped with. However, I have fixed a bunch of those that are equipped with the 4.0L engines. The vacuum line for the heater shutoff valve is a plastic line that goes up to the front part of the engine on the passenger side. The plastic line likes to break there. ( Actually, this is the line to the vacuum reservoir, but it is the main source for the entire climate control system.)You can "mend" the plastic line by using a short piece of rubber vacuum hose and push the broken ends inside of it.
Check the vacuum line under and in front of the throttle body...with engine idling. It is located under where the air filter snorkel attaches to the engine. Then check all vacuum lines at the intake manifold. Check vacuum lines at distribution block on firewall and check the large brake booster vacuum line from one end to the other. You'll find it!
The age of your vehicle guarantee's a vacuum leak. It may sound silly but the truth is rubber grommets and hose's shrink and dry out over time and the harsh environment under the hood makes it worse. Check all vacuum lines and fittings attached to the intake manifold, valve covers(pcv valve), and be sure to check for a vacuum fitting on top of the intake just behind the throttle body. Does it fit tight in the hole? You can seal loose fittings with a high-temp RTV (Red) silicone sealant/adhesive. Several small leaks add up and your engine, heat/AC, will be all to glad to tell you about it.
