When should you change coolant glow plugs?

The frequency at which coolant glow plugs need to be changed can vary depending on various factors such as driving conditions, the type of engine, and the quality of the parts. However, as a general rule, it's recommended to replace coolant glow plugs every 100,000 miles or so.
Regarding the engine code P0128, it usually indicates that the engine coolant temperature is not reaching the required operating temperature within a specified amount of time. The coolant temperature sensor and thermostat are common causes of this error code, but it could also be caused by issues with the coolant glow plugs, wiring, or other engine components.
A damaged wire on a glow plug could certainly be a contributing factor to the P0128 code. The glow plugs play a crucial role in warming up the engine block, so a faulty or damaged one can result in poor performance and a higher risk of damage to other engine components.
In conclusion, it's a good idea to replace the damaged wire on the glow plug and have your vehicle's engine system thoroughly inspected to determine the root cause of the P0128 code. If other components are found to be worn or faulty, it may be necessary to replace those as well, including the coolant glow plugs.

DTC P0671: Cylinder #1 Glow Plug Control Circuit
DTC P0672: Cylinder #2 Glow Plug Control Circuit
DTC P0673: Cylinder #3 Glow Plug Control Circuit
DTC P0674: Cylinder #4 Glow Plug Control Circuit
DTC P0675: Cylinder #5 Glow Plug Control Circuit
DTC P0676: Cylinder #6 Glow Plug Control Circuit
DTC P0677: Cylinder #7 Glow Plug Control Circuit
DTC P0678: Cylinder #8 Glow Plug Control Circuit

Circuit/System Description
The glow plug controller has the ability to perform internal checks, an open or a short to ground on each of the glow plug circuits. If the glow plug controller senses a problem in a glow plug circuit, the glow plug on the affected cylinder will be disabled and the glow plug controller will send an error message to the engine control module (ECM). If this condition exists, the DTC will set.
Conditions for Setting the DTC
The glow plug controller detects that the glow plug control circuit is open, shorted to ground, or has more than 1 ohm of resistance.

Circuit/System Verification
Verify that DTC P064C is not set.
If DTC P064C is set, refer to DTC P064C.
Ignition ON, engine OFF, observe the scan tool Glow Plug 1-Glow Plug 8 parameters. All 8 Glow Plug parameters should closely match each other.
Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections if you cannot duplicate the conditions.
Engine running, observe the DTC information with a scan tool. DTCs P0671-P0678 should not set.
Operate the vehicle within the Conditions for Running the DTC. You may also operate the vehicle within the conditions that you observed from the Freeze Frame/Failure Records data.

DTC C0035 Left Front Wheel Speed Sensor Circuit
DTC C0201 Antilock Brake System (ABS) Enable Relay Contact Circuit
The system relay, located within the electronic brake control module (EBCM), supplies battery voltage to all of the valve solenoids and to the ABS pump motor. When the relay contacts close, the EBCM monitors the voltage supplied to the valve solenoids and compares this voltage to monitored ignition voltage.

Will not start. code reader says glow plug heater circiut malfunction.

Hi Mike:
Glow plugs-on fed truck usually the controller-on cal.equipped truck usually glowplugs themselves.

We are assuming the you have some of this codes:
- P0380 Glow Plug/Heater Circuit A Malfunction
- P0381 Glow Plug/Heater Indicator Circuit Malfunction

I found this after searching this and other diesel sites for about a week glow plugs are covered on factory extended warranty-10 years or 200000 miles call GM @ 1-800-462-8782 have VIN# ready

Models: 2002 - 04 Chevrolet Silverado
2002 - 04 GMC Sierra
Equipped with 6.6L Diesel V8 (RPO LB7 - VIN 1) Engine; and California Emissions (YF5/NE1), or Clean Fuel Emissions (VCL)

Condition: Some customers of 2002 - 04 model year Chevrolet Silverado; and GMC Sierra trucks, equipped with a 6.6L diesel V8 (LB7) engine, and California emissions (YF5/NE1), or Clean Fuel Fleet emissions (VCL), may experience a condition where the engine glow plugs may fail. Failure of the glow plugs on these vehicles will cause illumination of the MIL. Also, depending on the ambient cold start conditions and the number of glow plugs failing open, some customers may also comment about hard starting, misfiring and white smoking after cold start.

Customer Notification: General Motors will notify customers of this special coverage on their vehicles (see copy of typical customer letter included with this bulletin - actual divisional letter may vary slightly).

Ask your local dealer.

Hope this helps; also keep in mind that your feedback is important and I will appreciate your time and consideration if you leave some testimonial comment about this answer.

I have a 2006 model scorpio, My vehicle has completed 3.0 lac km. Vehicle was having a lot of vibrations,I got replaced engine mounting & all the tyres.Steel some vibration's are their.Shall i...

It is most ideal that the job be done with a well equipped authorised service center. It is important that sine your vehicle had clocked so many kms, the entire vehicle needs a good closer look.
it must start with the engine, if there is vibration then there can be imbalance of the engine , need to check the condition of all four cylinders. Also the suspension, links and shocks, brakes, alignment and chassis/doors , hinges for rattling and vibrations.
