I have a 1998 Chevy Blazer and when I am driving it makes a loud airplane noise. It is auto, 4 wheel drive. When I switch it to 4 wheel drive it stops and then I put it back to 2 wheel drive.

I have the same 'airplane' problem on my 2004 Maxx. I'm convinced it is the tires. If I am driving down the road, I throw it into neural (causing the engine to slow way down) the noise does not decrease. If I am driving next to a wall or barrier, I can not hear the sound really from outside the car-only inside.

This started on me in mid-september. It's April now...considence or not, I need a new starter now. :-(

I had the same issue and had to replace the Hub Assembly on the passenger's side...a few months later I also had to replace the Hub Assembly on the Driver's side. My uncle is a mechanic and said it is not uncommon in the Malibu. I hope this helps! Now I am noise free, with the exception of the rattle coming from the dash since day one!

Could be the cat converter.

if not that, I've seen CV axles that caused poor take off and vibration.

Loud Vibration / Sound Under Acceleration And Starting Engine.

Get the engine mounts checked. A bad mount may allow part of the engine to lie on a body or frame part, allowing engine vibrations to become very loud. Torquing of the engine (under load) can cause the same type problems.

1997 s10 2 wheel drive truck. 4.3L v6 makes a loud noise as the car accelerates fast or under load. When running 55 I can release the gas pedal and the noise is not audible. I can put the truck in neutral...

Your noise sounds like it is power train related,If you have eliminated the engine,Since it doesn't make the noise while moving and in neutral.
It sounds like a universal joint in the drive shaft.Do you notice a vibration
along with the noise?

The fan clutch was replaced but the same noise which sounds like an airplane taking off is still present when accelerating at any speed. Does the fan motor need to be replaced also?
