Renault tend to use 'Pollution Control System' as a bit of a catch all for emission faults, so it could be lots of things, including sensor faults - and very short trips (which can cause dpf problems)
If your car starts and runs as per normal - buy a can of DPF cleaner, pour it in the tank and take the car for a long 'hard' run at speed for a good 20 miles or more. Work the engine via the gears and get things hot.
Could be a few things but in order of likeliness:
The Thermostat is probably on its way out / gone - Usually indicated by the bottom hose on the Rad being cold and the top being hot - Replace
You have an airlock / low coolant level - Fill and Bleed
Your water pump has failed - Replace
Try to disconnect battery first and then hook back up after a minute. This should reset computer. If it runs good after that and then bogs down again you can get the code for check engine from any parts store and then investigate more throughly. If it runs good after you do the battery don't fix it.
another renault hiccup yet again ,right look up under the front dash drivers side but i think you may be RHD anyway have a look up against the side part and if you see a box with five wires running to it that come from the ignition switch area ,then start car and with engine running cut the third wire along ,the engine will keep running ,so you do not need the clickky thing, now this will work with clios up to about 2001 i think it is so without knowing the year because a 51 plate means nothing to me ,when i left UK they were on a T at the end of the reg which was a 78 .
it's normal because as you disconnect each one the engine will run rough because your causing that cylinder not to fire which put stress on the others don't do this it can create other problems. hope this help
