I need to find out where the speed sensor is located at on a 1998 dodge ram 1500 2wd. Can you please help me???

left side of transmission, in the tail housing, it is the furthest back sensor in the transmission.

If its a 4x4 its in the transfer case near the back on the housing the drive shaft goes into. The one in the rear end is located dead center on top of the differential.

the sensor is actually located on the rear differential on these vans, at the top of the large housing in the center.

There are two in the front, one on each wheel and the rear might have one in the pumpkin. The one in the top of the rear axle is the main speed sensor, the front sensors are only there if it has 4 wheel abs.


The vehicle speed sensor is located on the top of the rear axle.

Pre 1998 the speed sensor signal comes from the back of the trans/transfer case. 1998 and later the speed sensor signal comes from the rear axle speed sensor.

replace the speed sensor on top of the rear differential.

you have an code stored in the abs module.likely a bad rear wheel speed sensor.as it runs the speedometer.check wiring to the sensor.it is located on the top of the rear diff housing.hope this helps.

The Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) adapter is at the rear of the transmission about 8 inches forward of the driveshaft yolk on the driver's side of the tranny.

IIRC, the speedo reads off of the sensor in the center section of the rearend. Also controls ABS. Hope this helps!
