Actuaror rod goes down when I urn the key but the key wontpush it down enough to start it

The switch that the ignition actuator rod pushes on can be adjusted upward. Make sure the steering column itself isn't damaged though you can damage the switch if the column is worn out and you adjust it upward

My car is bining when I open door, indicates that a light is on or keys in ignition no lights on and no key in ignition, battery is being drained?

There is a good chance your Ignition switch is worn out or an adjustment has slipped. There are a certain amount of functions done at the powerhead of the Ignition switch and some functions are done lower, at the end of the steering column. There will be a rod or cable running the length of the steering column and some are adjustable.

The battery can easily be drained or components can be damaged when left on for 24/7 because the key does not turn off. Try the passengers door to see if the chime goes off when it opens too.
There is a part inside the Ignition switch that detects the key. This means your battery may be fine, just the indicator is broken. There is always a way to tell, but it is easier to replace the switch.

The Ignition switch is not too difficult to replace. It may have some Antitheft screws holding the case to the column. The plastic cover on the column will need to be removed. There is usually a trigger pin hole in the plastic cover. When this pin is push with a drill bit or similar part, the core of the Ignition switch will be released.

I hope you found my Solution helpful.

Lost my key need to get back on the road quickly Any help???

If you loose your key, the only way to start it is to hot wire it or break your igntion switch. Even when you do that, you have to be very careful. The only way to get a new key is by buying a new igntions switch that probable cost around 300 dollars. Sorry for your luck.

When turning the key to start the engine the mechanism will not move to energizer the ignition switch. does not appear to be the key tumbler, and the ignition switch rod that fits into mechanism has not...

The battery could be dead, or the connections may be corroded. Try taking some sandpaper to the terminals and connectors, and charging the battery.

No power to anything in the vehicle. i tryed jumping it and still got no power

the igntion switch comes apart in these trucks and u loose power to everything, this is not the key cylinder buy the actual electrical switch, the switch is located down near the bottom of the steering column tube on the top, it is operated via a rod from the ignition key cylinder, it is very cheap, about $12

Engine continues to run after switched off. The ignition physically operates normally. It just wont shut the car off. is it the switch?

it is likely the igntion switch, not the lock cylinder. the ign switch is attached to the lock cylinder where the key goes in.

1998 cheverlet pickup, security light came on and dont know how to reset it???

can't be reset. the security system consist of the igntion key, igntion key cylinder, wire harness and module.
the most likey cause of this is the tiny wire harness from the igntion cylinder to the module is broken where it goes into the cylinder.
you can try using another igntion key, if still persist you'll need to get this fixed, sooner or later this will not allow you to start the engine.

What is the ignition switch?

No the igntion switch mounts further down the column.I has a big square connector to it then has a metal rod the hooks into the bottom of it that runs up to the lock cylinder.A gear on the end of the lock cylinder messes with another gear in the column that hooks to this rod.
