I have a 2000 ford windstar that I bought last monday, it died last tuesday. go figure. I was driving down the road and it just died with no warning at all just stopped. I had it towed then the next day go it to run however it kept stalling but this time it would start right back up... I got it home and it died again. won't start. Got it running again after changing the Mass air flow sensor and did a tune up then it was driving ok found out that a hose came off of my egr so with that put back on it ran fine so thinking it was fixed i went to drive it and made it about 5 blocks down the road... died again and will not start... it's running codes p0171 and p0174 please help!!

You have O2 Sensor Codes

I believe you have a bad fuel pump,
thus low pressure and the O2 Sensors,
set a lean fault code

Check fuel pressure at the rail when you turn
the key to start or it is running

Changing spark plugs is something that
never has to be done to find out what issues
you have.
You could throw away a couple and it should start

Also NO Parts EVER get Changed until
TESTED and found to be bad

Windstar 3.0 2000 stalls randomly when starting engine and randomly hesitates and dies when driving. I can drive several miles without symptoms and suddenly it dies or missfires. Any clues?

My first question is - is the check engine light on? If it is you should have trouble codes stored in the computer that would help direct you to what you should test.
If not, it may be tough to figure out until the problem is constant. Most anything electrical can cause the symptom you describe. Heat, moisture, and fatigue can play a role in the problem.

I have a banging under my ford windstar paid 2000 for van have put 10000 into it have always have fords love them but this problem mechanics cant figure it out......driving me crazy

It could be any one of a number of things:-
Exhaust system
Anti roll bar on front suspension
Stabilising arms
gear linkages
Wishbone joints
ball joints
rear suspension linkages
shock absorbers
engine or gearbox mounts.
flat spots on wheels

Try figure out if the noise only happens under certain circumstances like road surfaces or wheel speeds or engine speeds, and try narrow down the source.

P0171, p0174 too lean bank one and too lean bank two

Any time there is a code that says "too lean" then that means there is not enough fuel that is going into the cylinder to make it combust. This is very dangerous to the engine! There are a few things that cause this. (1) The fuel injectors are clogged and need to be cleaned or replaced. (2) the fuel pump is starting to die and needs to be replaced. The best thing to do is get fuel injection cleaner and put it in the gas tank when you fill up and see if that helps. If it still persists then replacing the injectors would be the best way to go next. I hope this gives you a better idea what to do!

Have a good one!

I can drive my 96 ford windstar for about 1 hour and it will just die going down the road and we have to let it cool off for about 1 hour before it will go again.

do a visual on your fuel line see if it is close to a hot spot like exhaust manafold if so wrap it in heat resistant covering i'm sure you can get it at the auto parts store.
