How do I replace serpentine belt on a 2007 mitsubishi outlander xls 3.0
It appears you got two belts on this, You would remove power steering belt first. Sometimes, the power steering body has bolts you can loosen, to get slack in the belt, with the bolts loose, you rotate the body, to get slack in the belt. With the belt on the right, you would rotate the tensioner to get slack in the belt, to remove and install.
I had to go to paint to draw the belt diagram, so it isn't exact, but, should be close enough.
I have no repair info on this vehicle.

Replace power steering belt
You should have a serpentine belt (one continuous multi-grooved belt) on that model in which case the easiest way is to get (or borrow) the special tool (a long bar with a place to install a socket) to back the tensioner off enough to slip the belt off one of the pulleys. Install in the reverse order using the wrench back the tensioner pulley back enough to get the belt over the last pulley then release the tensioner - it will automatically provide the proper tension. If it a single V-belt then look for a bolt or bolts you can loosen and slide the power steering pump toward the motor and remove the old belt then install the new one, carefully pry the pump back into place and tighten the bolt(s). This should work on most vehicles.

Power steering hard
Check the power steering fluid level, a line may have been removed on the power steering to get to the alternator but it may not have been put back on or topped up again. I presume the power steering drive belt is still in place.

How do I remove the valve cover in order to service lifters?
This si the solution for a gasket replacement, and you will need it when you remove the old ones.

    • 1

      Disconnect the negative battery cable. Remove the accessory drive belt. Using a 9/16mm wrench, loosen the power steering pump bolts, then slide the pump forward. Do not remove the power steering pump. Remove the power steering pump braces.

      Disconnect the spark plug wires. Using a 9/16 mm wrench, remove the valve cover bolts. Lift the valve cover to remove it. Using a flathead screwdriver, gently nudge and remove the old valve cover gasket.

      Clean the gasket seating area using automotive engine cleaner and a clean cloth rag. Make sure that all debris is removed. Place the new gasket into place. Apply gasket sealant and place the valve cover back into place.

      Tighten the bolts securing the cover into place using a torque wrench. Reconnect the spark plug wires. Reinstall the power steering pump braces. Place the power steering pump back into position. Using a 9/16 mm wrench tighten the bolts that secured it into place. Reinstall the accessory drive belt.

      Ensure that the negative battery cable is disconnected. Locate and remove the accessory drive belt. Using a 9/16 mm wrench, disconnect the bolt attaching the alternator to the brace.

      Remove the brace to gain access to the additional parts that will be removed. Disconnect and remove the spark plug wire harness. Using a 9/16 mm wrench, remove the bolts securing the valve cover. Lift up and remove the valve cover.

      Use a flathead screwdriver to gently nudge the old valve cover gasket to remove it. Do not scratch the gasket seating area when removing the valve cover gasket. Make sure that all debris and particles are removed from the gasket seating area.

      Place the new gasket in the gasket seating area. Using a torque wrench tighten the valve cover gasket bolts. Reinstall the spark plug wire harness. Put the alternator brace back into position and tighten the bolt that secures it into place.

      Reinstall the accessory drive belt. Reconnect the negative battery cable. Add oil to the car and start the engine. Allow the engine to run idle for 10 to 15 minutes. Drive the car a short distance to check for leaks.

    Power steering pump came loose and the surpentine belt came off. How do you fix the pump and tighten it back and also where do you loosen the pulley to put belt back on.
    if the pump was not damaged when it came off you will have to buy the right size bolts to mount the pump back in place unless the bolts have broken off in the holes in which case you will have to remove the broken bits from the holes b4 you can bolt the pump back up.
    As for the belt tensioner you will need either a socket with a long handle arm or if it has a half inch square hole in it you can just use the handle by putting the square end on the handle into the hole of the tensioner and pull down on it while you place the serpentine belt in place b4 letting the pressure off the tensioner

    How do I change the battery on a 1994 volvo 850
    Don't know about the layout of the Volvo belts; however, there are basically two ways to release and restore tension on belts.

    The old way involved components that could be moved in and out to allow the new belt to be put in place and then have tension restored to the belt. A bolt in an elongated hole allowed this movement. The component that could be moved could be the alternator or power steering pump. The sequence was: loosen the bolt, move the component, install the new belt, move the component back till the belt is tensioned, and tighten the bolt.

    The new system involves a tensioner that holds the belt in position. These tensioners can be moved in one direction to allow the new belt to be installed. After the belt is in place, the tensioner is released and it moves back to a position where it keeps the proper tension on the belt.

    I can't get the power steering belt back on because of the tentioner
    Does the tensioner have a bolt on it? Put a socket wrench with a long handle on this bolt and try to push the tensioner to one side. This should give you enough room to get the belt in place.

    if u mean the fan belt ??,the power steering pump have tensioner undo the bolt and move to close to the belt if u wanna try on the belt on if dont ,try using the alternator tensioner after that tight it all up also make sure the belt is tighten up not slacken
