Interor lights & head lights

Yes, it is a known issue on the Towncar. Advice in the link is to spray the catches and switch with WD40 or replace the switch.

It's a faulty door switch like everyone is saying. Spray it wd40 and should work

Time to hose down the door latch with WD-40. Spray close and open a few times, spray and close / open a few more times. Can take up to 5 rounds of this to start working again.
The door ajar switch is part of the door latch, and the contacts get gummed up, causing the truck to think the door is open all the time. Usually liberality spraying the latch does the trick.

more than likely it is the headlight switch. All of the lights work off from it. My dads 97 chev would shut off all the lights after shutting the door. Then you would come back later and the interor lights would be on again and run the battery down.

Check the bulb (s) first, then check the fuse. If all is ok check the switch (s) in the door jam. (You didn't say if it was one door or all doors)

There should be a switch on the dash that controls the interior lights on the vehicle. It might be part of the dimmer switch. Usually the switch will turn on the interior lights in one position, off but on when door is open in another, then off all the time in the third position. Check this switch and verify that it is not in the off position. If the switch is in the correct position then the door swicth located on the inside of the door might be sticking. Check the switch stem/button action and makes sure it fully pushes in and out. Also verify that the interior bulb is good(not burned out) and that the fuse for the interor light is not burned out.

could be a dirty contact on the bulb. Remove the lens cover and check the bulb first.

U will need to have the dealer test the Lighting control module to see which door latch switch is sticking and keeping the lights on, I know the problem well, there are 4 door s so if u do it u will need to remove all four door panels and replace the switches one by one (very hard to replace, they are attached to the door latch) until u find the problem switch, the dealer can ID the problem switch with an electronic Ford scan tool.
