The noise is probably the ware sensors on the brake pads making noise the noise lets you know that the brakes are getting thin are are ready to be replaced.if you let this go to long you can damage the brake rotors, make sure you check to make sure the caliper is not sticking on the left side being this side is making more noise ,a stuck caliper can cause premature brake pads ware .

does this mean i will need a new caliper? or just new brakes and rotors?

  • Anonymous Mar 08, 2011

if the caliper is is sticking ,or the rotor is ground up you may need a rotor or caliper ,the rotor will have a min. thickens spec. sometime you can have a shop machine the rotor ,but for what they will charge you about 20 bucks a rotor sometimes your better off spending another 10, 15 dollars and get a brand new one,as for the caliper if the caliper slides are the only thing sticking you sometimes can clean and lube the slides back up and they will be OK but if its the caliper piston thats sticking your looking @ a new caliper.if its just the ware sensors making noise all you will need is pads and machine rotors (or new rotors)you just want the surface of the rotor nice and straight when you replace the pads so your brakes work @ 100%.

Your front right caliper may be sticking. The brake pad is most likely worn to the indicator or past it and rubbing on the rotor. The reason the abs light is coming on is the senor is probably rubbing on the rotor now due to the lack of brake pad surface or from the caliper sticking your rotor is warped. Look for heat spots (blueish coloring) on the rotor or high and low spots where it has been rubbing.

It all depends on the condition of the caliper if it is sticking or not. If you have high miliage on the car you may just want to replace with a loaded caliper. This is a caliper that comes with the pads. should be about $65.00 each. I would replace the rotors also should be about $40.00

Thanks alot. i really appreciate it. im tinking about replacing all my brakes and rotors. front and back. so do i need to just buy rotors and pads and shoes? and calipers?

If you have over 100k on the car I would replace the front brakes with loaded calipers. Just replace the rotors and pads (drum and shoes) on the rear. If this is a drum brake setup you will want to take a good look at the wheel cylinders also. They are about a $20 part that tend to fail at high miliages, especially if you are in a high salt, snading winter area.

What coul possbly cause scrubbing nose at right from wheel on 2004 dodge Dakota

Most likely is a problem with the brakes like worn out disk brake pads now making metal to metal dragging between the disk and caliper. take it to a brake shop and have it checked, because it is unsafe to drive if it is this issue.

I have a noise and slight vibration coming from my front end

Possible have a caliber not retracting all the way and the brake shoe is slightly scrubbing the rotor. Don't overlook the possibility of wheel bearings or CV joints.

2003 camry with 200,000 miles has rubbing noise not the brakes wondering if a cv joint or u joint problem

If you have a rubbing noise on the BRAKES then its most likely the pads worn out and touching the metal backing plate ,other wise it could be the wheel bearing worn or coming loose but the CV Joint if worn will make a clanking noise when turned on full lock either Left or Right.
So jack it up at the front and check the wheel bearings and turn the wheel to see if the noise is there as it will be a metal to metal noise ,but if pads are good then it will just be a soft rubbing noise.

When turning left, rubbing noise in front left wheel area, had brakes & brake pads checked not a problem, also when go over a bump in road the check traction system light comes on( will go off &...

Since you indicate a rubbing noise and not a grinding noise when turning left ... check that all the plastic wheel well liner pieces are in the correct place ...including any access doors (if there are any).
It is difficult to say if the noise is related to your ABS/traction lights going weird while going over a bump. Usually this type of light issue means there is a partial bad electrical connection somewhere between the sensor on the wheel and the controller. It could be at the sensor or in a line connector somewhere.
I assume your brake person verified that the sensors are OK

Rear driver wheel has light reubbing noise when car in motion goes away when brakes are engaged. Is this brakes or barrings problem? Cost of repair?

hi this sounds like your brake pads have worn, or the brake shoes as well, if you have drum brakes on the back it will be shoes, if disk brakes will be pads+shoes (inside the disk) if it was the wheel bearing you would hear a loud humming noise not rubbing noise, is it a metallic rubbing noise or a rubber squeaking rubbing noise? just check condition of tyre on back if it is the squeaking rubber noise cost will depend on where you take it and if you do it yourself, possibly $40 to $50 at a garage/auto shop or possibly $20 to $30 if you do it yourself, this just depends ...hope this helps

It sounds like "False Antilock Mode" to me. Your Antilock Brake Control Module "thinks" that you have a wheel locking up. This is probably caused by a bad wheel sensor. You need to scan the module to find out which one.

you may have a loose wheel bearing & warped brake disc!
most people not even most mechanics dont realise that a loose wheel bearing can prevent the brakes from being blead up due to the movemnt !!

Very loud "rubbing " sound when driving only

you did damage to the wheel bearing i bet it sounds like a airplane sound. also if you steering wheel is off 7"then have front end aligned because this will destroy the tires and they will make noise.
