Help -
I have a 1999 Audi A4 Quatro, 60,000 miles. It was a dream car until yesterday.
It started with a hiccup at low rpms and within a day has turned into an erratic idle that swings from 500 to 1200 rpms. While cruising, at a constant speed the engine runs fine for a bit, then momentarily cuts out.
The Check engine light is on. The Vag codes are as follows:16487 "mass airflow sensor signal too high; 17963 "Idle speed control throttle position lower limit not attained"; 16505 "Throttle position pos. sensor circ range/performance"
To top that off the Tiptronic stopped functioning. Is that somehow related?

Ignition coils has to be the answer. if it was the fuel pump your car wouldnt start. So i would say contact audi. they should have sent you a letter in the mail. We have the same car and i got a letter from them. ignition coils are the recall for the 02 a4.
Crank shaft sensor or air mass meter, is this a v6? I had the 2,6 a4 same fault same miles funny enough. changed the air mass meter is was ok after that. thing is they have so many sensors, you need to get it on a diagnostic machine to be sure.
There are two adjustment points (screws). For example left headlight: you will see one point near the end of left wing, at bottom side through a wing hole. This is for vertical plane headlight beam adjustment (up-down). Another one point is against water radiator side. This is for horizontal plane headlight beam adjustment (left-right).
The best balance of price, quality, availability that I have found is Mobil1 synthetic - it's on Audi's approved oils list. With the 2.0T engine, you absolutely want to use synthetic (the Audi turbo fours are known for oil sludge issues), and you want to do a SeaFoam treatment every 15k miles or so - that combination will keep your engine in great running shape.
I also have a 2004 Audi A4 3.0 Quatro and the low oil sensor comes on periodically. I pull the oil dip stick and put it back and it goes away. Maybe it will work itself out.
