I have a 2000 chevy with 5.3 liter v8. fuel pump has been replaced but the same problem is still there. some times it will start on first try, but usually it takes two times it seems that the fuel pressure is bleeding off drying a short distance starts first time but if drive a mile or two then it takes two times could the pressure be leaking from the fuel injections., also after the key has been removed the gauges will come on. but once3 the door is opened they go off.

What is your fuel pressure with key on engine off? On these fuel systems if you do not have at least 52 psi or poppet valve inside the injector will not open allowing fuel thru.Let me know what it is i will try to help you.
Good Evening, the solution for your gas gauge floating from e to f and having to cycle your key a few times to start is fixed with one assembly. Unfortunately it means dropping your gas tank and replacing the fuel pump assembly which comes with a fuel level sender on it. Try cycling the key on off 5 times without starting and start it after the 5th time, Im guessing it will start a bit easier. Let me know how it goes and if I can help more let me know.
NO START UP CAN BE MANY THINGS LIKE BAD SPARK PLUGS - FAULTY FUEL PUMP - DAMAGE OR BAD IGNITION COMPONENTS - FAULT IN FUEL INJECTORS CHECK FUSE.A BROKEN OR DISCONNECTED IGNITION COIL WIRE.TO SAVE YOU TIME HAVE THE TRUCK SCANNED.
If it is getting spark and fuel check the timing. The timing chain may have jumped.Take out #1 spark plug and tap engine till the compression stroke comes up. To check just hold your finger over the plug hole and the compression will blow it out. Then rock crank by hand and set to top dead center. Take distributer cap off and see if rotor faces #1 cylinder. If you have spark to the plugs and the plugs are good and you have fuel timing or compression is all that is left.
replace your MAP sensor(manifold absolute pressure) the map sensor is the computer for your fuel pressure regulator telling how much pressure. Unless your tahoe runs like **** going up hill than it inevitably your fuel pump
