I have a 2004 Holden monaro and lately the steering has been getting very tight and makes a whining noise when i turn full lock. Today I am barely able to turn the steering wheel an the noise sounds even worse at minimal turning. I have checked the level of power steering fluid and everything looks normal. Able to help out with some info of what to do?? Cheers!

A few things will cause this to happen your power steering pump could be going out, the belt could

have stretched, this will happen with old age, make sure the belt is not brittle or has any cracks. the

belt could be slipping, or the belt tensioner may need to be replaced. one trick that i have learned and

i will pass it on to you. 1st disconnect the negative side of the battery. take a hard bar of soap any

cheap brand and rub it on the belt. if the belt has any cracks the soap will remove any noise if in fact

it is the belt. reconnect your negative. start your car. if the noise goes away just replace the belt.

good luck!

Thanks for the reply, ended up gettin my mate to check it out and it was something like the seals on the rack disintegrated and went through the pump so both had to be replaced or something like that.

Hello, check all your belts on the front of the motor, the power steering belt in particular, if they are ok, start the car and see if all the pulleys that connect onto your power steering is turning. You could have a seized pulley or a broken/damaged belt.

Sounds like power steering pump has gone bad (internally) They don't always leak fluid to go bad. Replace with rebuilt/reman unit, flush lines etc and refill & you should be "golden"

This site has a pretty good section on the Pontiac GTO and Holdan Monaro. How To's, manuals and so on.

If you do have to replace the power steering rack, this might help you with that.

My 2004 porsche cayenne steering makes a whining noise when I turn the steering wheel - what could it be ?

Air in the power steering pressure line. Is the power steering reservoir full? Check for leaks or breaks in the pressure line to ensure air is not getting into the system.

My Kia Sedona goes ******* the steering sometimes and makes a whining noise on full lock, any ideas

never hold the steering on full lock as that overloads the pump and steering components
Take it to a power steering specialist shop to check pressures

Is it easy to change the diff oil on a. 2006 crv

a noise on full lock is the power steering pump pressure energizing the pressure relief valve in the pump. when you hear this noise back of the steering a fraction and it will go. you will still have the same turning circle without the loaded pump and steering components

How to remove the whining from xc90 frontend

Whining from the engine or the driveline itself? Whining can be caused by lack of or low lubricant, a bad bearing or a serpentine belt on the way out. Can you be more specific? Does it only whine while you are driving, or does it whine all the time and changes pitch with engine RPM? Does turning the tires change the noise, if so, does it go away in one direction but not the other, or does it increase in noise the closer you get to full lock on the steering wheel?

Loud noise when power steering is on full lock Kia Sedona 2004

There may be 2 possible causes for this problem. THe first may be cv koints failing or excessive turn angle of the wheel which would be binding up the cv joint. This can be checked by a wheel aligner testing the maximum turn allowed at the wheels.. The second is that power steering pumps should never be operated at tight full turn. To umnderstand this consider this. Power steering pumps are only under load when you move the steering wheel ans if you turn a bit the pump moves the wheels and then the pressure is let off until you move the wheel again. You have to move the wheel to shut off a valve in the box that allows the pump to build up pressure. When you hold the wheel hard against the stops at full turn you are making the pump work at maximum pressure and if you continue to do this you can expect premature pump failure. Jusat turn until you hit the stops then ease off a fraction. The noise I expect is the pressure relief valve in the pump is releasing rapidly and it probably sounds like a hammer hitting something metalic. Try the alignment and try not holding the turn hard at hard full turn. Haveing the pump pressure checked might also point to a fault

I had my transmission serviced today. Now my power steering pump is making noise.

no connectin between the 2 but check the fluid level. If it's a low tone whine as you turn the steering wheel, it could be air trapped in the system. Keep fluid level up and turn lock to lock several times to purge the air.

How do you bleed the power steering pump

1.check belt not too loose/tight
2.turn wheel over full lock and hold for about 30 secs then other lock.
that is about all you can do(whining noise normally associated with pump clutch, steering wheel would vibrate as you turn if it had air in system).to bleed the pump you loosen the out pipe on full lock, then tighten when fluid appears.

Whining Noise

Hi, this sound is most likely coming from the power steering pump. I would first, check the power steering fluid level to see if it is full. if its not at the full mark, add some fluid. If the fluid reservoir is full upon inspection and the whining continues, the pump may be damaged and the pulley on the power steering pump could be slightly out of sync with the pump housing.

The second issue could be belt slippage. i would do a tension check on the drive belt and pulleys as well. make sure there isn't any ware and tare on the belt and make sure the tension is to specs.

Please rate and god bless:)
